You're going to want to talk to a realtor in your area. They usually know what other homes typically have for flooring. They will give you a good idea on what to choose for flooring. My personal preference is also mahogany. http://apexfloortile.com/products.html... more
I have been in a lot of homes lately, and there seems to be a trend. The darker floors are more prevalent in a lot of the newer homes. I guess you want to make a choice that will help you resell the home. In the end, the right choice is the one that makes you happy though. http://www.surplussalesinc.com/hardwood.html... more
I say if you are going to live in this home, then you should do what you like best.
If you want to finish it like the original times then that would be the answer.
The non gloss medium to darker finishes is currently in style.
I sincerely hope this helps.
Yeah, I would ask the flooring company or somebody who deals with that. I know most wood floors I have seen lighten over time due to ultraviolet rays. This has happened in my home in several areas to some degree.
