Read what parents are saying about Green Hedges SchoolAn absolutely wonderful school and we highly recommend it. Excellent facilities and the teachers are wonderful and excellent. Green Hedges School offers a socially safe environment for kids to grow up and explore the world. Nothing but compliments.
Posted by a parent on 5/22/2023Absolutely wonderful school with ditto faculty and staff. We feel so privileged to be a part of the Green Hedges School community. We came here from The Netherlands, and we are here just for a few years. During these years it feels like a gift to have our kids learn in this rich learning environment with the kindest and most motivated group of teachers I've ever met (and I am an educational consultant, education is my profession!). Both my husband and I, we highly recommend Green Hedges School. A hidden little gem in Vienna, with a fantastic Native Science Garden for the kids to learn in. Their playground is about to be renewed, but already our kids love spending their days at school and on the playground. And I say 'little gem' because it's so small, with just 160-170 students, it's very personal. The school where everybody knows your name, really knows your child and his/her learning journey. A close and nurturing (parent) community, we are happy to be a part of! I only speak to parents that express the same amount of satisfaction, and I hope more parents will express why they are satisfied with GHS here on greatschools.org. For us for example, from abroad (expats), we use this website to look for great schools for our children. Would be great to see more GHS experiences shared here! :)
Posted by a parent on 4/2/2019My child reported that there was cyber bullying going on and nothing was done about the situation. The head of school only thinks of himself and not for what's best for the whole school. I never understand why good teachers leave because we are never told why. It seems very suspicious to me that the turnover rate is so high each year. I also see very little support happening for students with learning differences because there is not anyone on staff that is full time to assist with this issue. They only bring in contracted tutors and that is not enough. This used to be a great school, but not anymore.
Posted by a teacher on 8/2/2017This school provides an excellent environment for both of our kids who are in the Montessori program. They are extremely supportive of not only our kids but the family as a whole. We had the unfortunate situation last year of losing our daughter and the whole Vienna community along with Green Hedges has provides us ongoing support during these tough times.Sometimes you don't know how important a school can be until you are confronted with a tragedy. Green Hedges has really shown us the importance of the school - community connection and we would highly recommend them.
Posted by a parent on 6/21/2017Wonderful students and some good teachers. However, the administration lacks in many areas. I have been very disappointed with my child's teacher this year and the lack of care from the head of school. It seems like the school is all talk but does not really care about actually doing what they say they do. The music program is also extremely disappointing.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLouise Archer Elementary School has proven to be an unfortunate choice for my children's education. The school's unwelcoming atmosphere and lackluster approach to fostering a positive learning environment have left us deeply disappointed. Despite having experienced other great schools in Vienna, our time at Louise Archer has been marked by disinterest from the administration, unengaging teaching methods, and a dearth of extracurricular opportunities. Regrettably, I caution Vienna parents against enrolling their children here, especially if they value a supportive and enriching educational experience.Having experienced other exceptional schools in Vienna, Louise Archer Elementary stands out as the worst my children have attended. The school's apparent lack of concern for fostering a welcoming community has made the transition challenging for my kids. The academic experience has been lackluster, with disengaged teachers and a curriculum that fails to cater to individual learning needs. I urge parents to explore alternatives that offer a more positive and nurturing environment for their children's education.Parent Review8mo ago - Marshall Road Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been here for multiple years now. Their current teacher is amazing, and our previous teacher just wasn’t the right fit for our child. They were still a solid teacher that my child enjoyed. I cannot say enough about how fabulous their current teacher is. She is beautifully managing a classroom with 6 kids above grade level and other kids who have just immigrated to the US with limited English. My child has been placed in the AAP program they need, and their teacher is actively seeking the higher curriculum needed. My child loves their classroom. They are grouped by capability with lessons geared to each group. My child does have special needs. I proactively reached out to the school prior to their first school year and everything was well addressed. Their plan has been proactively managed with things added as needed. New things tried when the need arises. My child also faced disciplinary actions. The school communications were great about what happened and how they would be addressing the challenges as they arose. I was never blamed for the behavior, expected to remediate only at home, or not part of the plan. I have been equally impressed with the emphasis on socio-emotional learning. The community is great. My child has several friends and enjoys all the school activities such as the before school programs by the PTA, the community events, and seeing friends within our neighborhood. The SACC program is fabulous as well. The staff is fantastic and dedicated to their students. Finally the rating is what it is for 2 reasons, the highest level of need in the Vienna community (serves the lowest income group) and MRES being the center for special needs in the area. I see this as a positive as a large portion of the school is of a higher socioeconomic class and being exposed to a larger community is a good thing for me.Parent Review5mo ago - Vienna Elementary School

Think carefully before you decide to send your child to this school.Parent Review1y ago - Wolftrap Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have not had a good experience. The teacher will box your kid into a category and that follows the child throughout the Wolftrap years. Not fair!Parent Review6mo ago - Appletree School Ii

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is extremely introverted and shy. He gets overwhelmed by large groups of people and can have a hard time opening up and getting comfortable with new people. He would cry every single day when we dropped him off at his old school. We expected it would take months for him to get used to his new teachers and friends at Appletree II. But after a few days, he was so excited for drop off! He comes home everyday with a new song he learned at school. He talks to us about all his friends at school. He practices the manners and amazing values he learned at school here at home. He loves his teacher like she’s family. And we, as parents, feel so informed about how’s he’s doing and what he’s learning each week. We love this school so much and it’s been the absolute best place for our son. We just had a second child and we’re just counting down the years to be able to send him to Appletree II as well. Take a tour of the school, meet Ms Annely (the Director), get a sense of the values and community there, and peek in a classroom and see how happy the kids are. You’ll love it, too.Parent Review5mo ago - Appletree School
