While there are those who feel the security, gates, and cameras are extreme, I feel better as a parent and former teacher knowing they are there. Based on stereotypes and how we tend to label people and schools, one would have never thought Columbine or Virginia Tech would have been sights for tragedy. Proactive is always the best policy. GW provides an outstanding college prep program and the most varied and exceptional extracurricular activites
... Read more of any school in the area. The school is safe, and filled with many wonderful faculty members. I also like that the school is very diverse; my children have had the opportunity to become friends with teenagers who are from every socioeconomic, racial, ethnic and religious background. They learn to respect one another and to work together - as one example, just look at the award-winning marching band. Read less

GW is a school that has past its prime. The administration is weak and the superintendent even weaker. Security is the only thing good about the school. The once great GW is but a tarnished has been as it slowly sinks deeper. Only an overhaul of the administration and school board could save this school.

There are also many different academic routes that students can choose to best fit their interests and concerns. If a child is serious about their education and parents are involved, its possible to get a good education. I'm a student that goes to GW High School and from my point of view, the school isn't the best high school but it's the best in Danville. A lot of people say the school is unsafe and the students that go there aren't getting education. The school has great teachers that do the job and most of the classes

I am a former student at G.W and it was not the most serene environment but it was school. As a teenager the cameras and security guards at every turn and corner were kind of scary and uncomfortable. I feel that GW would be alright if it wasn't for all the security. For instance the gates, which is a fire hazord and they don't even unlook if we have a fire drill. I recently heard they were going to get rid of Ms.Hoffman, but as a student I feel that she is a great principle that they need to keep.
... Read more The laws they make are kind of silly like for instance on Valentine's day they want if let u take balloons on the bus which isn't hurting anyone. Then at lunch when its cold outside they don't want you to anywhere else but the cafeteria, but Gw is a big school and all of us cannot fit into that cafeteria. Read less

This school has good teachers, but a terrible environment for a child to work in. The school is full of dangerous people and becomes more and more like a penitentiary every day. The school has brand new cameras and tall fences(Which have done no good), but ten year old books.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
