Island Creek is a wonderful neighborhood school. My daughter is in her second year there, and I am very happy with the education she is receiving. We nearly went the private school route but are now thrilled with our decision to use the public school system. The school does an excellent job with differentiation

Emphasis is placed on good character, and the program they use to encourage it is evident throughout the school day. Teachers are responsive. The principals are professionals yet very accessible to the parents. The PTA is active. No school is perfect, but we have no regrets about our decision to send our daughter to Island Creek. Read less

Our son attended the PAC program at Island Creek for 8 months, and it was an amazing, supportive, stimulating environment for him. The school's principal has a strong background in special education and we were never made to feel like outsiders while we were there. It was very sad to leave when he

ICES was an interesting experience for me as a parent. Our oldest went k-2 there, starting the first year the school opened. His teachers were outstanding. I am a little puzzled by the school's rating. My son's scores were very high. He qualified to go to the gifted school the next year, but we
... Read more moved. Maybe having the gifted students go makes a difference, I didn't examine the numbers too closely. The principal thinks everyone is in elementary school, but she is very good at inspiring her teachers. Their policy of 'once your kid walks in the door, he's ours' was a tad overbearing. The front office staff must be overworked because they were pretty stiff when a parent came in to the office--as if we were interrupting. My child really enjoyed school there, and I thought the quality of education was great. Read less

My daughter just finished the 1st grade at Island Creek. It was a great experience for her. The teacher was very experienced and nurturing. There were a host of after school activities. The PTA is very active. The children had several programs during the year to encourage reading. Instructors in music,

... Read more there since 3rd grade and all the years she has been there she made many friends and started talking some more. When she started school in Kindergarten, she was very shy and did not really talk, but as she older and got more friends and was comfortable, she stared raising her hand more in class. All her teachers were great, so really consider letting your child or children go to ICES, my children had so much fun. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
