Read what parents are saying about St Thomas High SchoolWe are not Catholic. We weren't sure how that would look when our son set his sights on STH. He has really enjoyed his theology classes- the academic pursuit of understanding how faith has shaped our world, geography, and politics- the big picture -- not just Catholic catechism. Critical thinking about complex issues and how they relate to the ethical dilemmas every profession faces is stressed at STH. And while the school is Catholic in presentation, people of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to express their perspectives. These perspectives are not only well received but respected and result in dialogue and growth. My son has learned about different viewpoints and learned to try to find a middle ground among them -- something the world needs more of.The school is centrally located - and everything that comes with being within spitting distance of downtown -- access to the good and the bad of a major American city, so if cities scare you, this isn't the place. On the other hand, what is SO beautiful about the location is the radically diverse population that attends STH. It pulls from around the city and mostly mirrors Houston's ethnic breakdown -- more so than any other private school. It is also financially diverse. Well-rounded schools have all types -- the super wealthy and the just getting by -- and at STH, they are all afforded equal access to a stellar education. With a robust financial aid program, young men of all backgrounds can become STH alums. I give it four stars for "excited about learning" only because it is school. He is, however, excited to go to STH and be a part of the community. I also gave four stars for the family engagement. We came from public school, and there are groups of parents from Catholic schools. Their boys are friends, and they are friends. It can be, at times, intimidating to join in things, but the people are very kind.My son is a better human for attending STH.
Posted by a parent on 10/12/2023My son is a sophomore at St. Thomas. My husband and I are confident that we have enrolled him in a wonderful environment. A place where he is respected and challenged and where he is growing in the right direction as a young man. For example, my son has created many strong friendships with other upstanding boys here. The school is run very well. And the school’s leadership is excellent. If you are considering St. Thomas for your son, take a tour. After my husband and I toured when our son was in 8th grade, we both fell in love with the school. And we are so happy we did!
Posted by a parent on 10/12/2023St. Thomas High School offers a strong academic curriculum, many activities for the young men, and plenty of events to bring parents and families together on campus! Strong school for 123 years!
Posted by a parent on 10/5/2023St. Thomas is really focused on building the entire man...through academics, faith, brotherhood and athletics. I knew how key it was for my son to go through this key time of maturity in an environment where he wouldn't just be a number or slip through the cracks. I needed for him to be known and at St. Thomas he definitely is. He has been allowed to figure out more of who he is and what he is passionate about and he is exploring topics that are more and more interesting to him. Seeing him dive into Engineering or AP Environmental Science made me realize the true preparation that STH gives before college. He is staying engaged and looking to learn more when he leaves STH...fresh and challenging subjects have really inspired a love for learning that I didn't expect. Kudos to the STH leadership for their great strides in working to nurture the entire student including their emotional well-being. Yes the school is structured and strong, but the teachers are dedicated to really connecting with the boys and supporting them. My son will graduate in May and I know he will leave STH feeling proud of what he has accomplished there, but also knowing that STH is still his home and that the brotherhood there doesn't end when he graduates. I chose STH because of the men I know in my life who went there. Men of strong character who are smart, thoughtful, driven, and memorable for how they live their lives. My son has learned how to be that kind of man and his brothers at St. Thomas will support him as he lives his life in good times and in bad. They are family. EFND...Eagle Fight Never Dies!
Posted by a parent on 10/3/2023This is my son’s first year at STH and he has found the community he was looking for—a family outside of his family—a brotherhood. STH has welcomed us with open arms from the beginning. The constant encouragement to be involved on campus, the support offered for mental health (ie. Wellness counselor), the extracurricular activities, the staff support and LRC are among our favorite things at STH. The doors to success and support always seem to be open no matter what. We feel the love and are impressed with all of the support available to our son.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe sense of community among students is great. And I really love that. I knock it down a star just because I feel teachers could be more engaged with parents on a one-on-one level to really hone in on how to make our kids flourish. I do understand that teachers are spread very thin, but I do feel like more attention to each student by means of the parents would help so much more. But it takes actually meeting with parents. We had a zoom session that was 15 minutes… and it seemed so forced for the teacher. No desire to connect with me, the parent. Again, this is my only gripe and teacher is still great to my little. All in all, it’s a wonderful school and I hope to keep my child here!Parent Review1y ago - Memorial Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSt. Stephen's is a hidden gem within the sea of learning environments in Houston. It is holistic, child-centered, and eager in its growth goals. Always learning, the teachers are phenomenal. They will soon feel like family. Children are deeply loved here, and they thrive as a result. The education is rooted in Episcopalian values (one being - all are welcome), while living within an unwavering commitment to Montessori pedagogy. On a spiritual level, all 3 of our children are developing a strong sense of empathy, inclusivity, tolerance, and loving kindness. On an academic level, all 3 of our children are challenged appropriately in an environment that encourages curiosity and fosters a love for learning. St. Stephen's is a one-of-a-kind school, truly a place that all children deserve.Parent Review2mo ago
