It's a whatever school if you can find a group of students like you and you have classes with them it's not all that bad. Still, there is already so much swearing at this school and friendships are not some web where you feel comfortable with everybody you really just feel comfortable with a few students. most teachers are nice if you behave most kids I know in this school have at least 30 missing assignments and many students are on the edge of having detention for having so many tardies. This next year they are banning phones except for at lunch. They will take your phone the first time you see it and a parent will have to pick it up. Decent schools but they are more concerned with controlling the kids than giving them the best education they can give.

As a parent, 8 year PTSA executive board member and CC board member, I have seen and heard pretty much everything that goes on in this school. I have been very impressed with the staff and their efforts to help every student succeed. If there are a handful falling behind, there is a program discussed to implement to help. Almost every teacher's skills has gained my confidence. They care about these kids! The state school grading system awarded us an "A!" The accreditation that was performed recently rated South Hills well above the state norm. Principal Jameson is amazing! I really can't say enough positive about this school! I'm sad this my youngest student's last year here.

I was a student at South Hills for all three years (7th to 9th grade). While I did have a few great teachers, the majority of the school's teachers were not that great and the administration was off and on. To be completely honest, it felt more like a juvenile detention center than a school. It was as if the administration expected every student to be rebellious, and their top priority was rule enforcement. Not allowing students to leave the lunchroom during lunch, not allowing students to chew gum, monitoring the halls, and handing out "After-School Detentions" and "In-School Suspensions" all seemed to be more important than ensuring the best education for students. We all know how middle schoolers are; they're trying to fit in, but I feel like, if they would've been less obsessive with rule enforcement, that students would be more likely to follow the rules. Extracurricular opportunities are slim, and classes offered are almost all general education. In the end, though, I still had some good times at this school, with some good teachers, and learned enough to still make it a decent school.
