As an employee of the school, I am personally involved in admissions and testing of students coming from the public sector. Students at TCA are much more advanced than most students coming from the public sector and home-schooled sector. TCA is a fantastic school with a rigorous academic curriculum. The current administrator has implemented great policies to make students AND parents accountable for their actions. This includes grades by the student and behavior by both students and parents. The school if well-backed and sound. It

Poor leadership. 6 changes in administration (elementary and secondary principals and head of school) within past 7 years. Outdated curriculum concerns may lead to difficulty obtaining next years accredidation. Current administrator has no high school admin experience and becomes unprofessional and threatening
... Read more in pressured situations. This has resulted in many students suspensions or expulsions (n/a to us). Parental support poor due to treatment by staffers. Financially insecure and heavy pressure to sell items and donate money. Financial stewardship: poor and very lilttle checks and balances in most areas. Social situations: more bullying and poor treatment between students than many local public schools. Student disrespect: high, however, no behavioral consequences given. Difficult school, constant changes each year, little accountability, and an untouchable board made up of white males only. Read less

I love TCA. My children love TCA. Academics are rigorous. Vocal music and orchestra program are great. TCA sports are the best in Central Texas. I cannot say enough good things about this school. We have been a part of TCA since it began in 2000 and would not have our children any where else.

... Read more outstanding, with wonderful, encouraging coaches and we usually have winning seasons in most sports. Most impressive, however, is the commitment of each teacher and coach to impart Christian values to the kids. This is not a Christian school in name only, as some Christian schools are. The opportunity to live out their faith is definitely available. My children have absolutely flourished here. I also appreciate that this is not a 'rich kids only' private school; financial aid is available to all who qualify. Read less

TCA is a wonderful school. Daughter came in 8th grade and immediately made to feel welcome. TCA educates the whole student. Transferred from premier college-prep school in city where she was top student; academics at TCA are at least as solid (SAT preparation has been added). But then TCA also works
... Read more with a struggling student to help them perform. If a student wants to play a sport, cheer, or be on Student Council, they can. Students respect each other. They don't use locks on their lockers because they don't need to -- in our experience, this is amazing. Parents are volunteering everywhere and in partnership with the school. This is not an 'elite' private school of privileged students. Students attend from across the city and financial aid is not just 'available' but promoted in a high-profile way. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
