My children have attended Deretchin Flex for the past four years. Each year the atmosphere becomes more and more stale. ... Read more like wild flowers in The Woodlands. In addition, the principal is not accessible to the parents and DOES NOT respond to their concerns or what is in the best interest of the students. You begin to wonder if she is in the education system for the right reasons? On a positive note, we have been graciously blessed with wonderful teachers who enjoy their jobs and are loving and nurturing to our children. We have been very happy with Deretchin Flex. We had a wonderful teacher and my first grader has thrived under her care. Any questions or concerns I had were handled immediately and professionally. The school does indeed have a great many students, however the classroom size(s) have been kept small

It has been our experience that the staff and faculty of Deretchin Elementary are focused solely on the TAKS tests. The teachers we dealt with don t seem interested in teaching things like how to think, how to reason, and how to imagine. They didn t seem interested in any input from us, the parents.
... Read more When our child had to go to the school counselor she appeared to be untrained in her duties. We therefore had to stop all sessions between our child and the counselor. The principal should take a closer look at what s going on and immediately take steps to correct the situation. As parents, we are not satisfied with this school. Read less

... Read more asked the teacher about individualized programs for our child they said they don t individualize above the second grade. When the teacher recommend that our child see the school counselor to get help with self esteem, (we had to contact the school counselor ourselves to schedule meetings during the day for our child) the counselor was unavailable and always had excuses as to why she didn t have the time to meet with our child. There may be some good and professional staff members at Deretichen but it has not been our experience. Read less

We're very disappointed in CISD in general. It means nothing to have a 10 rating on here and the Exemplary rating in Texas, because they aren't getting an education. Sure they are pounded daily to pass the standardized test, but when your 5th grader can't even write a simple story, something is wrong,
... Read more and it's not with the child Deretchin has over 1,200 students. That's more than most urban Middle schools. The classes are too big and the discipline is non-existant. The teachers may be good ones, but they don't have a chance to teach through all the chaos and overcrowding. Read less

Average education that focuses on getting a high rating on the TAKS. The basics must be taught at home. Good art program and PE. We were very disappointed about what our children actually learned. Good teachers, but they have to teach only what the district tells them to.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
