The high school in this district has made outstanding progress this past year. There was just a big article in the newspaper about how well students have done on the state tests, especially the minority students. I know principal and teachers seem very dedicated to making sure all students are successful.

I do not think that the school ignores the minority, I believe that there is an astronimical amount of non English speaking minorities that have inidated this school district and they are having to prepare the student that should prepare themselves. I found the parent involvement with these students
... Read more needed the training themselves and in the past before the influx starting four years ago, there were not these problems. The students and parent supported students still succeed by taking advantage of the programs available and there is a dedicated and loyal staff that spends extended hours and volunteers to meet the needs of these minorities. The minorities must take advantage outside of school to prepare themselves to be able to be sucessful and the permenating attitude of those that fail the tests, is one of they do not care. School ignores minority students and creates unacceptable test ratings that bring down all averages and creates a rating of unacceptable. Test scores would improve if only they would teach all students.

5 stars this school offers lots of opportunities for students to get involved in higher level courses. And the Academic Decathlon team are award winning state champs for 2 years in a row.

The school is qood! Everybody is there own self! the main problem we have is qettinq our students foced on sports & extra activites! the SOCCER team & TRACK team are wonderful! One girl took them to regionals & it was her first year were very pround of her! keep up the qood work

There are wonderful programs available to the students. The band is fantastic and they are going to state this year. The Academic Decathlon team won state 2 years in a row.

What can I say? It's a public high school. If you sign up for AP classes (of which there are ample offerings) and get involved in the right extracurricular activities, you'll be ok. Teachers range from marvelous to apathetic to just plain stupid, and students range from intelligent people trying to
... Read more get into a great college to pregnant 14 year olds waiting until they are old enough to drop out and everywhere in between. The place can be a lot of fun, or it can be hell on earth for four years. It's up to the individual student to choose his/her courses, activities and friends wisely. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:
general intellectual ability or talent - high intelligence test score (usually two standard deviations above the mean), and high levels of vocabulary, memory, abstract work knowledge and abstract reasoning;
specific academic aptitude or talent in one area such as mathematics or language arts;
creative and productive thinking, the ability to produce new ideas;
leadership ability, the ability to direct individuals or groups to a common decision or action;
visual and performing arts, special talents in visual art, music, dance, drama, or other related studies;
psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
