i think swhs is awesome. i loved it there. i played basketball and ran track and it was the greatest experience i ever had. my teachers were great. ms.chapa i love you.coach avery was the best. coach almanza i miss you=] but yea whatever some parents think its bad. its so not everyone is concerned

Ms. Fey is the best principal in Bexar County. She was born for this job. She absolutely loves her students and wants them to succeed. She expects my daughter to work and act like a young adult......and guess what, my daughter is finally doing it. Ms. Fey has changed the whole atmosphere of this school.

This is a good school that should be setting its sights a lot higher. The administration is more concerned with teaching for the TASK test than they are in preparing my kids for college and universities. If the schools would concentrate on quality education instead of worring about the TASK, the test
... Read more scores will come up. We have been down grading our curiculums so that students won't fail and what we need to be doing is upgrading the curiculum so that they will be prepared for higher education. Read less

Southwest High School is fortunate to have one of the most caring principal when it comes to students. She has a proven success record of demanding excellence in teaching, and that is just what all students should get; no mediocrity is going to work for her; she expects for everyone to get the job done

Southwest is a very family-oriented high school, almost to a fault. I attended Southwest, graduating in 1975,and have a child attending there. I am worried that the academics may not be as helpful for college prep,as they should be. The school board and administrators dont seem to be very demanding
... Read more of the coaching staff at any grade level. There does not seem to be a demand for excellence placed on the students and faculty. It is a very friendly school. WMy overall impression is that it is a good school that should be better. Read less

It seems the new principal is more concerned with policies and administration, than about what is best for the students. Counseling is also very overloaded, not enough time for students unless they are a problem to staff.

Southwest High School Is finally cleaning up its act. All this year there has been changes in Administration There has been Assistant Princils who have quit.A new princil has come in.Even a new Super Attendent.They are finally getting there act together.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School

Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:
general intellectual ability or talent - high intelligence test score (usually two standard deviations above the mean), and high levels of vocabulary, memory, abstract work knowledge and abstract reasoning;
specific academic aptitude or talent in one area such as mathematics or language arts;
creative and productive thinking, the ability to produce new ideas;
leadership ability, the ability to direct individuals or groups to a common decision or action;
visual and performing arts, special talents in visual art, music, dance, drama, or other related studies;
psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
