When I was a student at NHS the school lost some of the best faculty it had. There's no doubt in my mind that the current faculty, or most of the current faculty, is exceptional in what they do, but some cannot measure up to those that were lost when I attended. The school has been noted for its academics, but most of its noteworthy academic accomplishments have been from prior classes that have already graduated or is losing interest. I admit the blame should not only rest with the school, but with the state's policies toward academic institutes. The school no longer prides itself on academics, but image. * In 2006-2007, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was used to test students in reading in grades 3 through 9; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in English language arts in grades 10 and 11; in mathematics in grades 3 through 11; in science in grades 5, 8, 10 and 11; and in social studies in grades 8, 10 and 11. TAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
