Interesting, in resonse to another post, at the McAuliffe Elementary where my children go, the grades are online, available anytime and are numeric beginning in 1st grade. (Our kinder doesn't even use Y/N.) The teachers also send home a special report at least 3 times a year that tell the reading level.
... Read more We also get report cards every 6 weeks and 3 week progress reports if students are below 75. Parents have so many opportunities to communicate with the teachers regarding their child's progress. I just wanted to clarify. I am sure there are numerous McAuliffe Elementary Schools. Read less

This is an excellent school. Grades are numerical and found online. They are posted and available regularly. I receive an email if the grades fall below a 90. Teachers are excellent. ... Read more teacher had very high expectations of the children and her expectations were met by each child in the class. She had the children writing a lot of stories, learning correct sentence structure and encouraged reading outside of class. The only downside to the reading is that there is no 'classic literature' required in the classes. Science class has replaced Spanish this year. Leap gives the added value a private school would give children. One other minus is that little parental involvement is desired in grades 3-5. Overall, it is a great school with a wonderful principal, great staff and great children. Read less

Her teacher did not let me know that my daughter was falling back in reading until it was already the end of the year. I was very upset! Anyway she passed and we moved to another city nearby. Now she is in 2nd grade and her teacher let me know that she is having to go back to first grade material! Also
... Read more her new school gives actual grades. In McAuliffe they only give Y's or N's and it did not allow her new teacher to see what her grades looked like before. My daughter is also overwhelmed with homework now because her 1st grade teacher let them do their HOMEwork at school. She was not prepared for 2nd grade. Also McAuliffe tricks parents into attendance because they do their meetings on the days the children have functions and they do their hour meeting before the kids perform. Read less

Lots of parent involvement. Strong PTA. Clean, safe school. Teachers are a bit spoiled because of the high level of parent volunteerism; they tend to want perfection over creativity. There is a program for kids who are more advanced - LEAP which was very helpful for kids who need more challenges.

However, each year your child's current teacher is involved in determining who their teacher will be the next year. In addition to school activities, there are several clubs and other after school opportunities for students to chose from. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
