I have a sophmore at this school and will have an incoming freshman. The advanced classes are teriffic if your student is willing to accept the challenge and do the work. If not the regular classes are what they are. They need to have more social programs or better promotion of the ones they have. I

I have had the opportunity to participate on several scholarship committees and this has enabled me to interview the students. ALL the students commented that there needs to be more promotion of the clubs and every student needs to find one to belong to. Read less

This school isn't so bad. There are some excellent extracurricular activities such as our drill team (the Lariaettes), the marching band, debate, and the Longhorn Leaders mentoring program. ... Read more swim team (they don't even have a swimming pool of their own) and the various foreign language clubs. Academics overall are excellent, and the Academic Decathlon has won nationals twice and got third place once. Overall, it's a great place to learn, although I would appreciate it if something was done about the swim team and the golf team (they need a place to practice). Traffic is also a mess in the morning, since you can't circle around the building (there are wetlands behind Dobie). Moore Elementary is located in front of Dobie, so it gets congested. Read less

My daughter is a freshman at Dobie. She has done well. I thought that she might have had socialization issuses. To my suprise, she has made a great transition from middle to high. I think that I made a great choice.

An excellent school! Offers a variety of different sports and the music program has developed a significant amount from the year the new school was built. The facilites are great. There are many different extra-curricular activities at Dobie high school for the very diverse student body at this school.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
