I graduated from here recently and found most of the honors classes interesting, but I don't think this school prepares you well for college. I'm also a little disappointed in unequal distribution of minorities in honors classes consider they are the majority.

I was a graduate of Gonzales High School in 2006. While I do believe that the teacher's are doing a good job our administration is not up to par. The majority of the teachers do a great job and work with the students. The school district is in the process of going through a tremendous restructuring process which is a little difficult for the communtiy to accept. The actuall teaching isn't that bad at Gonzales High School, really it's just the fact that people who are involved in things have absoloutly no time to do any of their work because the classes are shorter, we don't have homeroom to do homework anymore, and sports and things aren't over until late usually. ...  Read more

It's a 3A school which is great. The problem is that the teachers are either over worked or don't want to work with the parents to push the kids. Hence, it's academically a 2nd rate school.

I am a senior at Gonzales High School and I believe that it is a really good school and a town full of good people that have/will go to it, but I think that the main problem is the fact that since 2 of our head honchos quit about 3 years ago, the school has not been able to replace them even slightly. ...  Read more

* In 2008-2009, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was used to test students in reading in grades 3 through 9; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in English language arts in grades 10 and 11; in mathematics in grades 3 through 11; in science in grades 5, 8, 10 and 11; and in social studies in grades 8, 10 and 11. TAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The grade 11 Exit Level TAKS is a high school graduation requirement. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
