Good high school. They offer a variety of programs, both athletic and academic. They offer honors class's and college credit class's. Decent class size and student teacher ratio.

Bastrop is plagued by large overcrowding and lack of substancial funding. This is primarily noticed at the 9th grade campus. Many students cause trouble and the are many language issues, (i.e. profanity). The fine art programs like dance and the band are very sucessful, but the band often finds funding
... Read more issues. There are three avaliable football teams, freshmen,JV, and Varsity. There is also vollyball, basketball, baseball, and soccer teams, and the possibility of a lacrosse team soon. Parents seem rather disinvolved with some programs, and that leads to some mismanagement problems. Read less

This is a good school given the limitations of the physical plant. Teachers are all certified. Failed bond issues are due to a poorly educated populace that places little value in the education of their children. The faculty and staff are doing remarkable work as shown by the sucess of graduating
... Read more students, extracurricular, athletic ativities and academic progress. The student body is one of the most diverse in Texas. The community needs to look outside and see what every other district in this area have provided for their children. The dark dingy halls, small class rooms and the poorly constructed physical plant all detrack from the learning process. In summation, this structure and the state of the physical plant are an embarassment and renovation, or replacement must be accomplished as soon as possible. The building is becoming dangerously over crowded. Inspite of the limitations, kids are still well taught at BHS. Read less

As a current sophomore I believe a large part of these facts [in other reviews} are out of date. For instance...I have many classes with 30+ people. The building itself is probably the biggest problem at the moment. Low ceilings, grey paint and yellow lighting make scool a depressing and dreary place

There seems to be a lot of teachers in this district that are not certified. How do they continue to keep teaching our children when their certifications have expired? I am a very concerned parent. Could it be one reason why they can't seem to get a bond to pass to build a new high school?

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School

Vocation/Technical Curriculum

Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
