I am a former student of AHS. I had a fantastic experience and was well prepared for college. A factor in success is student makeup. My years at AHS happened to see one of the most successful classes to come through the AHS system. Kids were concerned about grades and school, as well as athletics
... Read more and college. Overall, I think most of the HS experience is what you are willing to put into it. If a student doesn't want to learn, no one can make him. Conversely, a well motivated student will succeed anywhere. Concerning safety, when I was a student we had your usual fights, but nothing that was out of the ordinary for any large school. We did have a great disciplinarian, but that was back when parents didn't make excuses for their kids and actually let faculty do their jobs. Read less

I am also a former Teacher of Alice High School. The teachers work very hard at helping the students, and will stay till all hours (without extra incentives) if needed. Discipline is not handled well, but they do not have a disciplinarian, also for a school of their size...overhead is way to much..to many leaders, but not enough areas covered...plenty of state and specail fund are available, but the $$ is not spent well. Alice has a great Sports program, and Tons of extra activities, which in some is a detrament to some of the students...to much to do, and not enough time to finish work....Large 9th grade classes....small senior classes...thank you...Alice has potential! Rather than create a sanctuary where students felt safe and were encouraged to discover themselves, administration (many of whom were well-meaning and did try to make a difference) used the external conditions I alluded to above as a cop out. Thus, the circle of helplessness and ineffectuality continues. Clearly, this represents an abnegation of responsibility on the part of the school's and the district's leadership. The quality of the academic programs are weak. They have a great drama department but, it fails to succeed because administrators deny all attention to it. They recently even took away their theater so they were unable to practice for competitioon. The swim team has made it all the way to state but,

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
