We look forward to construction of the new YCHS over the next few years and believe the new facility will enable all students in grades 9-12 to find success. Then, as now, the greatest emphasis must be on academics, although we expect to see continued success in extracurricular activities such as athletics, marching band, and chorus. Read less

I feel that many quality educators have left this school in the last few years. The band program, ROTC and sports are administered very well but there are not enough opportunities for students in advanced math and science to shine.

I am the parent of two YCHS graduates. Both had wonderful experiences and were involved in athletics, band, and many other extracurricular activites. ... Read more & caring faculty and staff are one of the reasons for my children's success. There are many exceptional teachers at YCHS who work hard to prepare students for life, as well as for the academic and career challenges ahead after graduation. The school is safe, and recent renovations make for an attractive environment. The Principal is open and invites parents to be involved. ... Read more academic programs were excellent, particulary for high acheiving or wishful thinking students. The school offers a variety of activities from their champion band program to their always mext years team sports programs. Parents are always encouraged to be involved, in both the activities and with eceryday school functions. I have two children in the system in York, I have substituted for the school, and I plan on continuing to do so. Read less

I am a former student of YCHS. Class of 2000. Several of the teachers at this school made a large impact on my life and I continue to stay in touch with them. The school is very safe, very few fights. While the school isn't the most beautiful, it is undergoing renovations. If I had to choose a school

* In 2007-2008 South Carolina used the High School Assessment Program (HSAP) to test grade 10 students in English/language arts and math. The HSAP is a high school graduation requirement. The HSAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of South Carolina. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
