It is a school made up of individuals who care: about the students and their families, and each other. We do our best to teach our students to be kind, be respectful, be considerate,
... Read more and be themselves. There are programs in place designed to encourage individualism, teamwork, and community service. The student's welfare is the primary goal of each teacher, administrator, and staff member. In most respects, the school as a whole works as a well functioning family unit: watching over, directing, providing for, and loving each individual under its roof. I know first hand the influence this school has on its graduates, as I have watched my daughter grow up - utilizing the best lessons from each of her fine teachers - to become a good citizen with a sincere desire to affect her world positively. I am proud of the part I play in this institution, which is far more than that. It is a place that inspires its graduates to achieve selflessly with their community's betterment in mind. Read less

Our three children moved from the public schools to SDS. We have been extremely impressed and pleased with the high quality of instruction and caring at the Day School. Our children each have distinct personalities and learning styles. We were concerned that given the smaller size of the Day School

Our children have friends now from several different cultural backgrounds. The Day School's tuition is higher than most in the area, but they offer numerous advanded placement classes in the upper school which other schools may not. Also, finacial aid is available. Great school. Challenging curriculum with caring teachers push students to attain to the best of their ability. The only downside is the high cost of tuition. Very out of reach for most people. Had to take my daughter out because of the high cost. But, the five years she spent at the Day School
... Read more has prepared her well for public school, and has put her ahead academically of her public school peers. The Day School is 2 to 3+ years ahead of public school in some areas of instruction, especially English/Language arts. The PE program at Day School was much better than public school. The Day School's music department prepared her for Band in public school. Currently, my daughter enjoys Honor Band and Chorus. Public School is 1 year ahead of Day School in Band. Public School teaches elementary French instead of more useful Spanish that Day School teaches. Read less
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
