I can't say enough about how the band program at BHS has helped our child transition to high school. The research says that if kids find a positive group to identify with as ninth graders, they increase their chances of sucess and graduation tremendously. The support that the administration at BHS gives to the band program speaks to how strong the program has become in just 4 years. The administrative support has allowed the band program to expand beyond the typical concert, jazz, and marching areas to include world music, particularly percussion. I have two children currently attending Blythewood High. One is in CP classes and the other in special ed. The quality of the staff is outstanding. The teachers seem to actually care about my children's progress. They will even call me when they have a concern. The level of parental involvement
... Read more is quite good. I am involved with the marching band and have never worked with a more dedicated group of parents. We are very blessed to have a school of this caliber in our district. ... Read more at how respectful and resourceful the students are here, all things considered. The teachers and the administration have been very involved with his scholastics as I am very involved. And opportunities here far exceed anything we saw back in Arizona. Extracurricular activities abound and my son is very involved - in athletics as well. Even as a freshman. As with all places, there are areas for improvement - overcrowding for one. But coming from a school of 2500 in about the same amount of space, this is wonderful. We love it here! Read less

Because Blythewood High is a new school (2005-2006 first graduating class) there have been some adjustments for students as well as teachers. However, that should be expected. Read more to include opportunities for junior and senior students that other high schools in the district do not offer, i.e., culinary study, engineering program, etc. The community is so proud to have this new high school and the parent participation is great. I have not heard of any issues with fighting or out of hand misconduct. The leadership at this school is exemplary. My son is actually enjoying this school year. I would highly recommend that anyone considering this school come and look around meet the office staff as well as some of the teachers. I am sure most folks would be very impressed. Read less

Advanced Placement
