I'm a sophomore at BHS. Like most students, there are always problems, but overall, I find it fantastic at Beaufort High. BHS is very focused on preparing students for college/work. There are many sports and extracurricular activities that you can take part in.

I am a past parent of a Beaufort High School student who graduated in 2006. My experience as a parent was a pleasurable one. Our son attended Advanced Placement and IB classes. The teachers were highly skilled and offered very competitive curriculums. There was an underlying humane and caring approach
... Read more to teaching. My son attributes his ease into his university setting to the classes he took at Beaufort High School. The front desk staff was unusually gracious(in comparision to the elementary and middle school experience) always pleasant and made it easy to visit. The current principal is a maverick in his own right. Throughout my son's Beaufort County education I encountered administrators who seemed complacent with the status quo of students and relied on statistic that indicated that certain demographics of students were bound to fail. Durbin actively addresses problems and seeks solutions. Read less

As a current student (junior), Beaufort High is okay. At times things can be crazy, but overall its a good school. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
