Chapel days have been especially uplifting for them and I can see a difference in a positive sense in the area of prayer and knowledge of the Lord and scripture. I can see them developing and learning how to apply what they learn to their little lives. Our experience greatly differs from the last posting. These teachers truly care about our kids and are all very competent--even the newer teachers. ... Read more the curriculum to be well researched, intentional and challenging. Our older children have gotten excellent scores on SATs and have been accepted into all of the colleges where they applied. CSY is over 50 years old. There have been some changes in the headmaster in the last decade. Our current headmaster is a strong leader and has renewed the energy in the school. We are blessed to have such a school in York County. The combination of high academics with the foundation of an accurate Christian world-view makes CSY well worth the sacrifice for the financial investment. Read less

I have been the parent of a CSY student since Kindergarten. He loves it and when given the opportunity to attend public school or be homeschooled he rejected both. The academics are 2nd to none, SAT scores are consistently higher than most other schools in the area, and the number of seniors attending
... Read more college after graduation nears 100%. The sports programs though not emphasized are not 2nd rate either. The teachers and administration now only know the students by first name but most if not all of the parents too. CSY offers all the pluses of public education with none of the draw backs. We would not trade our CSY experience for anything. Read less

I go to Christian School of York and I love the atmosphere. People are really positive and friendly in general- its 'cool' to be nice. The teachers are so attentive; there is plenty of individual attention. The education and experience is worth every penny.

CSY is a school that is small enough that the teachers and staff really get to know the kids but big enough to offer many extracurricular activites. They have challenging academics and they take wonderful field trips frequently during the year. The teachers and staff are very concerned about the kids'

Our 5th grade daughter is moderately learning disabled (difficulty reading). CSY has remedial help for her in their discovery center and resource room. The resource room is where she gets individual help (tutoring) on her assignments. Discovery Center is where she performs mental exercises that help
... Read more kids with her type of disability. All her teachers have shown great concern and support. She has slowly but steadily improved. Her reading level is about that of a begining 3rd grader (that's a large improvement). While the teachers are willing, it still takes parent intervention to make sure that she recieves special accomodations. That's not a knock on the school but who better than a parent who works daily with her daughter on homework to know what she can or can't handle? There is no question that CSY teachers care and work with parents to help their children succeed. Read less

My daughter has attended CSY and been involved in the Discovery Center program for over 3 years. The progress she has made is remarkable. Even more important, she enjoys learning and her DC sessions. The atmosphere at CSY is that of a family. The teachers are outstanding and go above and beyond the

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:
general intellectual ability or talent - high intelligence test score (usually two standard deviations above the mean), and high levels of vocabulary, memory, abstract work knowledge and abstract reasoning;
specific academic aptitude or talent in one area such as mathematics or language arts;
creative and productive thinking, the ability to produce new ideas;
leadership ability, the ability to direct individuals or groups to a common decision or action;
visual and performing arts, special talents in visual art, music, dance, drama, or other related studies;
psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
