... Read more off to college, I entered with two full quarters of credit because of AP and other placement tests, and had the tools needed to adapt to the new environment. NDCL has very strong technology and performing arts departments, and mathematics goes up through the Calculus BC AP exam. The one area where NDCL is weak is in the Religious Education department. Honestly, the most impacting thing I learned was the Memorare (A Marian prayer), and I learned that from my English teacher! Our son chose NDCL over Lake Catholic and public schools. We have not been disappointed. The committment to Christian ideals, high student expectations and accountability, and academics over athletics(our child is an athlete), makes all the difference in the success of our child. ... Read more the staff will not compromise on integrity, and the students know when they walk in the door, they are a valuable member of the Catholic community. While the public schools may still have an edge on the quality music programs, NDCL is improving theirs each year. Parent involvement is visable in all endeavors. I am a former student at this school, and I can't say enough good about it. I was a smart kid getting poor grades (D's) in public school when I arrived here--and when I left Notre Dame I was bound for college, where I am now pursuing my Master's degree. This school totally turned me (and my life) around,
... Read more when I had given up on myself. My education was superior (I skipped freshman English in college by testing out) and had the background needed to succeed in my other classes. Having brains isn't enough--a student needs teachers who motivate and care--and that describes the Sisters who taught me. Parents, you will not be sorry if you make the sacrifice to send your son or daugher to Notre Dame. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:

psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
