Our World Neighborhood Charter School

This is a wonderful school, my child loves attending this school but I am not a fan of a certain staff. I feel like they are "superior" than you the parent. Otherwise! I recommend this school they're many teachers who support their student with their academic growth.

I feel horrible my child has to attend this school. This is a for profit school run by a mysterious ceo (Ferguson) that the parents and teachers havent meet. Expect your kid to get straight A's. No accountability or transcparency. The homework is a joke and never feels grade appropriate. If they get a great teacher they leave soon as possible do to lack of pay and fly by night ciriculum. The run commercials non stop on radio so the have money for marketing yet teachers email saying they need pencils and paper. Schools state test scores are much lower than the other public schools in western queens. No gym, library, auditorium, playground.

This is good school overall. However learning differences are not treated as they should be here. My child was treated as a “behavior problem” and it turned out there was a learning deficiency causing the problems. Instead of providing me with the resources I needed to get this checked out I just got phone calls and emails complaining about behavior. Very frustrating. We’ve moved on to another school which has identified my child’s problem and has provided us with the resources we needed. If the school could get their act together on children with learning differences it has the potential to be amazing.

My child has been at OWN since K. He is in 3rd grade now. We are thrilled with the school, so much so that I volunteered this year to co-chair the PTO. He has had wonderful teachers (2 in each class with a max of 25 students in K and 27 since then), a schedule full of specials including Art, Music, Film, PE, Spanish, Library. STEAM and more. We have very open communication with the administration and a very active PTO. We are welcome at the school and inside the classrooms. The school is incredibly diverse with 46 home languages spoken. And the school celebrates that diversity with various programs, a multi cultural day, flags of the countries all over the walls in the hallway. All the teachers and staff KNOW the kids. It is a small, welcoming environment with a fun and also rigorous academic program. My son is excelling and we are thrilled.
