Posted by a community member on 7/28/2023Both of my kids have attended Saint Joseph's School Yorkville for a few years and overall had a decent experience. The teachers are okay, nothing particularly special, but they are friendly and have a good rapport with the students. The school environment is safe and the staff are supportive. The school offers basic sports activities but the real standout is their extensive extracurricular activities. The biggest problem I had with the school was the principal. She has been there for 20 years. She is not open to new ideas and does not offer much support when a student has a problem. The school is very old-fashioned and needs a new injection of modernity. The location is great and if the school had better management, it could be a fantastic place for children to learn.
Posted by a parent on 3/7/2023As a student of St. Joseph's School - Yorkville, it has been a not the best experience. Half of all the teachers are nice when they are on their "mood" and when they are not happy they would make your day not the best. Not all the teachers are bad but most of the new ones are, the special subjects like art, physcial education, library, etc.. aren't so bad but most of the old teachers have left and now there are new teachers, I am not a hater of new teachers but some abuse their "power" on the kids. The teaching is honestly a confusing algorithm that they use, not all of them do it but they don't even teach with the books they even just don't use the books. Literally the teachers pressure kids with homework that would kill the child till 9:00pm even some cases past 12:00 am. The safety is the best but they lack a security guard. Also the kids free time is literally in the middle of the road. The family participation is really high with many activities, from 5 - 8th grade they do a project where kids bring their own boards to their "auditorium" where they present their topics to the parents and ALL kids must do it. The homework punishment for not completing from 1 - 4th grade is no free time, which I don't believe is fair since all kids deserve at least 5 minutes of free time to socialize or live than to just do work. The 5 - 8th grade get written up slips that are called "demerits" and two of those would equal a detention and those teachers write those slips immediately. In closing it's a good school but it's not really worth it.
Posted by a student on 2/6/2023My child has been going to St. Joseph Yorkville from Kindergarten and loves the school. The Children are challenge academically, and expected achievement is high both from the parents, teachers, and principal. The school is secured through layered access points but feels as inviting as the village square where scholars and students gathered to exchange ideas and catch up on play. The Parent association and volunteer class parents are the gems of this school. There is a community of parents always helping and inspiring you to help, by being a chaperone on a school trip, to sharing the forgotten homework pages.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe best decision we’ve ever made is transferring from my older child’s school to Trevor with his younger sibling. If you want a school that is the unicorn of schools: both nurturing and academically focused-then this is your school.Trust the teachers they know what they’re doing. They are the type of teachers that are life changing. My child is now prepared for middle school (they prep them from 3rd grade so it’s not overwhelming). Once you go through the grades you can see how they’re all connected and lead your child on the right path. I cannot say enough good things about this school. It’s truly a community and the parents are always there to help the other. We never want to leave after drop off even though we have work. You feel happy and comfortable. The teachers and administration know my kids so well-not sure who said retention amongst teachers were low? All the teachers we’ve had so far have been at the school over 15 years and they’re phenomenal. They believe in the school and you can feel it.Parent Review1y ago - St. Stephen of Hungary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is a safe port in a stormy sea for children in the time of Covid.Their smart Covid mitigation practices kept them in-person all year last year and they’ve retained the practices.Every single member of the staff we’ve interacted with clearly loves what they do and it shows. The academics are exemplary as is the love and care towards the children in their care.Parent Review2y ago - The Caedmon School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCaedmon is a place where children can truly flourish. The teachers, staff, and head of school are warm, caring, and professional. The environment is fun and familial. The greater community is wonderful. Our children have all had different, but equally wonderful experiences here. I especially appreciate that the school supports emotional and social development in conjunction with academics: children learn about friendships and empathy and mental health alongside math, reading, and science.Parent Review2y ago - The Chapin School Ltd
