I have 2 children in the school. 1 is in 5th grade Alpha and 1 in first grade. The school is amazing. I have never had a poor teacher. The expectaions on the kids are high, but if your child is able to keep up, they will be very well prepared for middle school. I moved my son from PS 193 and I am

My son has only been attending for 3 months (4th grade). This is considered to be one ofthe better schools in the district. Unfortunately, it is under the constraints of the NYC Bd. of Ed. (Balanced Literacy), meaning forced scripted, uncreative methods of teaching. My son feels unnecessarily overworked

Even in Oceanside, considered a very good district,where we moved from, there was no HW on weekends, and my son said they made learining fun. Next year, the 5th grade is slated to have 34 and 35 kids in a class. My God! How is individualized learning supposed to take place? I,m actually considering moving again. I'm sure the teachers are basically qualified, and the administrators are doing what they can, but the city school system is the city school system. If you have a choice, stick with the suburbs. My son and my daughter both went to p.s. 209 for elementary school. Teachers do not care too much about the kids. Besides the standardized tests, there are no other tests given to the kids. And if you want to get into the gifted program, the only chance you can get in is when you are in kindergarten.

PS209 is a fabulous elementry school. It offers a great teaching staff whom are knowledgable and personable. PS 209 offers an Alpha program which is geared to students who are on the fast track and can easily and quickly move though the ciriculum. The school also offers a wonderful science program where

Overall the standards are high. Looking at the statistics 209 has more kids in evey classroom next to every other local school and yet the reading and Math scores are substantially higher.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
