Although very small, the school tries to be the best it can be. There are some very good teachers who have the children's best interests in mind.

With the economy being so bad.... you really cant afford to risk losing anything. Unfortunately, that's our feeling about Harbor Country Day School. It IS all about money, status, fundraisers .... definitely NOT about education or the children. Believe me, plenty of parents have thanked me, already...

Harbor is a great school! We chose the school because we felt our son would benefit from smaller class sizes. We were taken by the warm, intimate setting, the facility, the caring, attentive teachers and the access we had to administrators, directors and faculty. Harbor creates a unique learning environment
... Read more where children feel a special comfort level with classmates as well as with both younger and older children. That environment results in a learning experience where the confidence becomes contagious throughout the school. We have found that anytime there has been a concern or an issue about our son s educational experience either socially or academically, the intimate access to faculty, directors and the Head of school, has always resulted in a positive outcome. Smart Boards are used in every classroom and new computers and new laptops were rolled out this year. In short, our child is getting the academic foundation we wanted him to have and were afraid he would not get in a larger school. Read less

Our children attend Harbor Country Day School, and it has been a wonderful learning experience for them. The small, nurturing environment has allowed them to grow academically and socially in ways that I do not think would have been possible in a larger setting. The attention they receive from the

For example, my youngest daughter presented a project on dinosaurs to an audience of parents and staff when she was a kindergartner, and I could not believe the poise she displayed -- holding a microphone, reading her script and beaming with pride. To the point by an apparently disgruntled parent that the school is all about money, nothing could be further from the truth. It s a down-to-earth setting where education comes first. Status is not the reason parents send their kids to Harbor; it s for the education. Read less

It has been to my experience that even as this school tries its very best to provide adequate education and curriculum some of the teachers are not up to par for what one would expect for a school at its costs. Even as the class sizes are small and you would think this would result in more individualized

The smaller enrollment is a deficit when it comes to academic classes such as band or sports. I can not say I had a feeling of pride after hearing the band my child was in and I can't believe there could be a chance to excel in this area for him. There seems to be too much effort afforded to social events directly tied in with fund raising. All of this may be my opinion however it seems I am not the only one. Reviews on this facility are black and white with no in between. It would only make sense for anyone interested to do there homework prior to enrolling there children. Read less

My child attended Harbor Country Day School for several years. Although there were a few outstanding teachers at the school, the majority of faculty, in my opinion would never, never be hired by the more discerning Suffolk County Public School System. Although there are excellent Private Schools

The public schools in Smithtown not only have far superior faculty(in my opinion) but a much more eclectic assortment of classes. Although the class size at Harbor is smaller, the faculty in the Smithtown public schools ironically seem much more inciteful to the needs of every 'individual child'. If I could do over again, I would never let my child attend this school. Read less

I was a student at this school for 4 years, and I had a fantastic experience. The teachers are great and they really push you to do your best. The curriculum is well-rounded and I felt like I was learning the material so that I could use it in life, not just to pass a state test. When I first came to

The classes are small, so you're with your friends all day and you get the support and help you need in every subject. Now that I've moved on to high school, I find that I am far ahead of the public school system's curriculum. Try this school. You definitely won't be disappointed! Read less

I cannot imagine a better educational environment for my children. The curriculum is well ahead of public schools. Subjects are taught more thoroughly, since teachers don't have to spend their time teaching arbitrary material for state tests. Students are taught the basics as well as challenged to
