... Read more lab experiments and even make lolipops. When i went to a newburgh public school for seven years, i did not like the enviorment . Now that i am at bishop dunn i enjoy the enviorment and think it is a very good school. The drama program is amazing and the dancing is even better. It may seem that there are favorites in the drama program but there isnt. Even as a dancer there still is a lot of comment required. The feild trips are great and i enjoy attending this school. I m surprised at some of the negative BDMS feedback on this site. I have two children at the school; one in 5th and the other in 7th grade. They started at the school in pre-K and K. I have only positive feedback to give. The teachers are outstanding in every grade. This is not your typical catholic
... Read more school. It is very nurturing and supportive of each child s needs. There is plenty of support form Mount St. Mary s college which the school is on the campus of. Extra help is often available from student teachers in addition to the normal staff. The middle school teachers in particular are very good. They leave the school well prepared for high school. The administration works very hard to maintain high standards both academically and morally. Read less

This school has POOR education in the middle school. In the beginning of the year the teachers don't give you a chance to show how bright you are they just throw you into regions or honors. The parents who volunteer will have their kids in honors and the kids with parents who actually work get put

I found the academics, the arts, and the family atmosphere at Bishop Dunn outstanding. The teacher's are creative and interesting and involve the students in all kinds of enriching activities. The middle school has a modern science lab (better than some of the private high schools) and the entire school
... Read more uses an up-to-date technology lab as well as Smart boards in most of the classrooms. More importantly, however, the teachers and administrators are kind and patient in their dealings with the children and the parents. My son graduated last year after 10 years in Bishop Dunn and he was more than prepared for high school. He was accepted into one of the best private schools in the area! He is in all honors classes and finds it easy after his Bishop Dunn middle school experience. Moreever, because of BDM he is a confident and compassionate 14 year old! Read less

The 1st, 2nd grades are very good because of the teachers.Then it gets worse.The learning is only based on memorization of pages and pages books. There is no hands-on sciences, no strong art classes (just painting), no sport. in 6th grade they do duck-duck goose. A lot of favoritism. very disappointing.they

The early years program (Pre-K to 3) is unbeatable, but the rest of middle elementary is not worth the $5000/year. The middle elementary program is chaos (the fifth grade teacher walked out midyear). Got a theatrical child? Great school! Want to focus on academics? Save your money.

I have experienced PreK thru 8th grade at Bishop Dunn and couldn't be happier. My children have received an excellent education from an EXTREMELY dedicated staff. The drama club is OUTSTANDING!

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
