... Read more schools paying $1300-$1800 a month for tuition and I have to say that St James out numbers all of these schools. There was even one school that mistreated my daughter and this was the school that I paid the most in tuiton. Every school has flaws and no one school is perfect but if you are looking for a school that is family oriented and you know your child will receive a good quality education then this is the school for your child. When we were that age we were not required to know half the stuff these teachers claim our children should know. My siblings & I never attended 'school' before age 5...we didn't learn how to spell our name until we were in kindergarten & we turned out just fine (doctor, lawyer, & teacher) They need to make kids feel better about themselves regardless of what they know. St. James unfortunately has failed to do everything it can to ensure that children feel safe from bullying, and misbehavior in the classrooms. My daughter is now finishing the 5th grade and bullying is still an issue in the school, teachers do not effectively deal with the problem, the prinicipal tends to blame the 'victim' and does not address issues or give appropriate consequences, Ms. Rivera goes above and beyond to make children feel welcome, parents feel tended to, but she can often appear overwhelmed. Read more children; the principal is clearly the commander and chief and no teacher makes any move without her say so which makes it a bit difficult when trying to get feedback on your child; there is no immediate academic feedback, the tuition is affordable but the parents are hit with many expensive fund raisers; the school lacks a library, gym, outdoor space and no afterschool activities; homework is true busy work of no value and not age or grade appropriate. My three year old attends the Pre K program at St. James and she loves it. She has really learned a lot. The Pre K program is a full day and combines 3 year old and 4 year olds. The school takes the children on trips such as the zoo, puppet shows and the Winnie the Pooh show. My daughter has learned

There is minimal homework, and the homework is not done even when assigned. The new principal (Mrs. Annemarie Mcgoldrick) is very strict, but she cannot undo years of turmoil in the short time she has been here. ... Read more only about 20 minutes. Some teachers encourage copying down the exact answer from the textbook, giving them A's when they do so. The few smart students who attend St. James find the work boring and can even degress within time, forgetting important concepts. At some point in their education, gifted students learn to be apathetic towards their schoolwork and not strive for a challenge. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
