I believe PS6 is a great school academically. The teachers for the most part are amazing. It's the rest of the staff that leaves a lot to be desired. The office staff has gotten somewhat more civil. The assistant principal and principal are not very approachable either. The after school program is horrible

I agree with the parent who said that the school seems to forget not all parents are financially well off and some even work full-time. I would love to see second language classes as well. Read less

I work as a student teacher here and I always have a pleasant experience. I sometimes question some policies on staying quiet during lunch, having myself aways found that to be a recreational time.

P.S. 6 gives a lot of attention to reading and math. Chess is taught from Kindergarten. They should introduce more hours of science in Kindergarten and they do not teach a second language. There is a wide range of afterschool activities taught at an average level. Teachers seem to be very professional.

There is little control on the kids activities and apart from drop-off and pick-up you do not really get to know what they do - of course this is also for safety reasons -. Every now and then you can attend some class activities like Reading Partners or the annual open houses to get a general idea of what is going on. Read less

Although the quality of academic programs at P.S. 6 is better than most I feel there is definitely room for improvement in the areas of math and english. P.S. 6 provides a wide array of extracurricular activities, however, they are provided at considerable cost to parents, some of whom, like myself

I give A+++++++ to parental involvement at P.S. 6. The school does all it can to rally the parents around the students for a wide variety of family-centered programs and the parents all seem thrilled to participate. All-in-all it's a great school. One, however, that would do well to remember not all of its students are children of doctors and lawyers, but some are students of hard-working, under-paid parents as well. Read less

PS 6 is a school which really 'works' on many levels. The building itself is very well lit, which I think means alot to anyone who spends any time there. It is also very clean, which is also very important. There are many excellent teachers, those people who not only really care about the students and

While the leadership is perhaps not as strong as it should be, the teachers give the school its' excellent rating despite this potential hardship. The parents pitch in alot, and run the auction, squaredance, fair, etc with great success. The politics that can destroy a school does not become overpowering here, and there is an AfterSchool Workshop available every day of the week, often with an additional array of subjects such as French, Italian, Chess, Matial Arts, Quilting, and many other activities. The PA also hired someone to organize the lunchtime yard games. The parents are a very committeed bunch and volunteer for many different thingsm such as yearbook interviewing, school beautification, running the school store with the oldest kids (5th grade).
