This school's curriculum is really poor compared to other public schools. The children learn what is going to come out on the standardized test only and that is not the way a child is suppose to learn. Anemic parent involvement and violent and rude students. Good and well behaved students are ignored while the teachers discipline the problem ones. Test scores have improved; the only way they could go is up!!! Average students are not even challenged.

... Read more about statewide exams than the kids actually learning the basic information that will not only take them to the next level, but help them in life. They offer no extracurricular activities and the after school program is like a zoo. Very few parents even get involved. P.S. 198, the Isador Ida Strauss School was a wonderful environment years ago. However, the lack of discipline, lack of teaching experience and the poor attitudes of the staff in general is hurting the school. Read less

This school is on the road to improvement, better test scores and more racial diversity. The teachers are excellent. * In 2006-2007 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, in grades 4 and 8 in science and in grades 5 and 8 in social studies. Advanced Placement
