Bank Street is a fabulous school with a vibrant atmosphere. I have had a great time here, enjoying the attention and the community. I do warn that one should be prepared about the High School process. It can be long and stressful, and sometimes very dissapointing.

... Read more you are. It has this amazing energy where the teachers speak to you like young adults and by the time you are 7 you feel completely at ease speaking with adults all the time. Once I was at this meeting with kids from different schools and student teachers would ask us questions. The Bank Street students were so honest as they were answering the questions as the kids from the other schools were intimidated. Our son attended Bank Street from the 4/5's through eighth grade. He learned to do research, think about math conceptually and critically think about the world around him from the earliest grades. The school is very student centric -- progress is measured, not alot of grades or tests (except to prepare
... Read more the kids for ultimately mainstreaming into high schools elseshere). and the kids learn as much about being a good citizen as straoght content. Only holidays recognized are Winter Solstice (with student concerts) and Martin Luther King Day. Civil rights lessons are baked into virtually every history lessons (led to some interesting observations aboutthe first Thanksgiving when my son was in first grade). The school believes that every kid matures on their own pace -- so they can be a litttle slow to detect and intervene for slow readers. Overall, it was a diverse and inclusive community. Read less

We love Bank Street. My daughter has had a wonderful first year here. The curriculum is progressive, yet highly structured. She can tell me her schedule down to the fifteen minute interval and she is already reading and doing arithmetic at 5.

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
