The field trips given are enough...4-5 trips per year. Keep in mind this is a Charter School which means it is a choice. If you do not want to believe it is a good school... move on. Excellence offers an aggressive curriculum for which I would easily give it 5 stars. However its systematic and deliberate way of shutting parents out is very discouaraging and defeating. ... Read more numbers are so impressive (nearly 100% of 3rd & 4th Graders passing state exams) that parents will never be allowed 'in.' Recently a demerit system has been implemented that I personally find to defeat the purpose for which it was intended. However, I've been trained enough to know that I don't dare fight it...I just don't stress my son with it. There are other great schools out there and would advise parents to seek those out before enrolling their son into Excellence. It is academically significant, but extremely stressful on the parent and the child. Read less

Excellence is a great school in the community of Bedford Stuyvesant. It has very high academic standards but is very strict and has little parent participation due to the administration denying access. Overall it is a great school if you are serious about your child's education. It does offer enrichment
... Read more programs but lacks field trips and interactive hands on learning. It is not a good school if your child is a free spirit and extremely arts oriented as the environmet does not allow for independent thinking and instead leans toward a more regimented style. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
