As a parent, I have found it difficult to discuss concerns with administration here. I have found that many of the teachers are wonderful and are willing to work with parents and students and show a true concern for the education of students. As an active member in the PTO, I have a deep concern regarding
... Read more administration's attitude toward the dress code here. I feel that 'policing' the dress code takes too much time away from actual education and brings the educational atmosphere down. I hope more parents can get more involved in the school, and hopefully, work to bring about necessary changes. Read less

This is a great school with a wonderful staff and good leadership. If you look at the data, the performance exceeds other schools in the area consistently. This school has high expectations, sends home frequent information and works well with parents. The only drawback I see is the high number of

This school is terrible and I would not recommend anything about it. It's obvious that the 'glowing' reviews come from administrators, as no parent (or teacher) would honestly write such things. The few great teachers have all left for other schools, communication is zero for parents and, as one teacher
... Read more told me, they are 'kept in the dark' as well. With a new administration, changes could be made that would benefit everyone, but sadly, that hasn't happened. Students are not educated enough here to compete in high school and then college. No wonder the drop-out rate here is abysmal. There are so many better schools in the area---parents, pick another school and send your kids there, not here! Horrible!!! Read less

There is a serious lack of communication at this school on all levels including student/faculty and parent/faculty. Response time is poor if there is a response at all. Parent/Teacher conferences were a joke. Staff try to pacify parents rather than find solutions. Great teachers are few.

this school needs to focus more on these kids academic needs and keeping in touch with parents instead of their dress code. I have made several calls to teachers with no responds.

The 'quality' of education at LBJ is seriously lacking, unfortunately. The administration's focus should be redirected toward the hiring and retention of competent, motivating teachers, and away from 'policing' the dress code--which seems to be the principal's top priority. It's sad that the good teachers

I'm not alone in this complaint. This school definitely needs new leadership and greater parent involvement. Read less

This shcool needs to focus more on the academic focus than on the dress code and needs to be more welcoming to the students in both classrooms and in the office.

I've had two children attend LBJ, and although SOME of the teachers have been fantastic, the classrooms are crowded and the teachers seem to be overwhelmed and unable to provide individual attention when needed. Communication between parents and the school is ridiculous--thank God for the email news,
... Read more as reaching anyone there (principal, etc.) is impossible. Even teachers have commented to me that everything there is 'a secret' and even faculty is left in the dark. If the focus of the staff/faculty could be redirected from the dress code to academics, that would be a much-needed start to improving this school. I wish I could have transferred my kids to one of the several better NE Heights schools. Luckily, we are hands-on parents who supplement our childrens' education ourselves. If we solely depended on LBJ, as many working parents must do, our kids would be left at a tremendous disadvantage. Read less
I love a lot of things about LBJ. Marcie Johnson is a great principal who has done a lot for our school. I like the uniforms, but agree that it is extremely frustrating when the school continually changes the policy when a few students abuse parts of it(ruins it fo everyone!). The parent e-mail list

It seems the janitors give out excessive lunch detentions to students in order to do as little work as possible (i.e. keep the cafeteria clean). It's ridiculous that a student can be given a week's worth of detention because a scrap of paper from their lunch was left behind. I don't know of any student who has left LBJ without having lunch detention at least once! My child has had mostly great teachers (with a couple of clunkers along the way). Despite a few annoyances, I am happy with LBJ. Read less
