Students are not educated enough here to compete in high school and then college. No wonder the drop-out rate here is abysmal. There is a serious lack of communication at this school on all levels including student/faculty and parent/faculty. Response time is poor if there is a response at all. Parent/Teacher conferences were a joke. Staff try to pacify parents rather than find solutions. Great teachers are few.

The 'quality' of education at LBJ is seriously lacking, unfortunately. The administration's focus should be redirected toward the hiring and retention of competent, motivating teachers, and away from 'policing' the dress code--which seems to be the principal's top priority. I've had two children attend LBJ, and although SOME of the teachers have been fantastic, the classrooms are crowded and the teachers seem to be overwhelmed and unable to provide individual attention when needed. Communication between parents and the school is ridiculous--thank God for the email news,
... Read more as reaching anyone there (principal, etc.) is impossible. Even teachers have commented to me that everything there is 'a secret' and even faculty is left in the dark. If the focus of the staff/faculty could be redirected from the dress code to academics, that would be a much-needed start to improving this school. I wish I could have transferred my kids to one of the several better NE Heights schools. Luckily, we are hands-on parents who supplement our childrens' education ourselves. If we solely depended on LBJ, as many working parents must do, our kids would be left at a tremendous disadvantage. Read less

... Read more is great! I also wish the school would give the e-mail list moderator all school info/announcements. I dislike the lunch detention policy! It seems the janitors give out excessive lunch detentions to students in order to do as little work as possible (i.e. keep the cafeteria clean). It's ridiculous that a student can be given a week's worth of detention because a scrap of paper from their lunch was left behind. I don't know of any student who has left LBJ without having lunch detention at least once! My child has had mostly great teachers (with a couple of clunkers along the way). Despite a few annoyances, I am happy with LBJ. Read less

Advanced Placement
