I, a former student of HHRS, have decided to take the courtesy of writing my own review. I went to HHRS for about a year and a half, so therefor I made it through 7th and half of 8th grade. I started off in the honors class, which was okay, even though I struggled through the year, I still made A's and
... Read more B's. But as 7th grade went on I started to notice that the teachers really didn't wanna teach, and we're in my opinion, just trying to make it through the day. Yelling at the student, being extremely unfair and aggrivated. Accept for 1 teacher, our Social Studies teacher, he was an inspiration for me to work hard. The honors classes also, unfairly, reward the kids who are doing great, and give no support what so ever to the kids who are struggling, or giving up. Read less

HHRS is a small school which is trying its best--however, its best is often not enough. Teachers, especially those in the History and English departments, often do not know what they are talking about. I've seen students in my class be silenced when they knew more information about a particular topic
... Read more than the teacher. The languages department is also lacking--the only in-school language class is Spanish! HHRS will also place the higher-scoring students in so-called Honors classes. Well, my second son has now been graduated from Henry Hudson. I was very satisfied with the education both of my boys received at Hudson. I feel the guidance department was wonderful with helping the kids apply for colleges. I am glad I made the choice to send both of my boys to Hudson. I do not

Some teachers here clearly are idiots, others are clearly dedicated and hard working. So it's a mixed bag. They could be 'harder' on the students in the Honors program, the reading lists are simplistic and there's no other word for them. But all the teachers also seem to offer personal attention. ... Read more are somewhat limited by school size and budgetary considerations. Parental involvement seems to be real and strong. however. My main concern is that, when the school has a few genuinely outstanding students (as I believe my child is), the administration won't work hard enough in tandem with parents to help get that child into as good a college as possible, and with as much financial aid (we'll need it!) as possible. That major caveat aside, I think HHRS tries its best. Read less

As a parent of a 10th grader I can only say good things about Hudson. My son is encouraged to explore his interests in sports and music as well as academic subjects. Yes, the school is small. About the high turnover, well that is to be expected in such a small school; can't afford to keep teachers who can do better money wise in other districts. However, this does not mean there are no experienced dedicated teachers. There are many! Kudos to Mr. Elliot, the dedicated and long serving band teacher. He's a special man. I would rather send my child to a school where everyone knows his name than to a factory disguised as a school. Read less

As an alumni, I can say I am proud of what the staff at Henry Hudson has done for me. My aunts and uncles are also Henry Hudson Alumni, and all will say the same. The quality of the teacher/student relationship is genuine, and went a long way when i need help understanding the meaning of Shakespears

The school is small, and thrives more so on its artistic, creative, and learning/teaching abilities than athletic competition. I wasn't involved in any of the sports, so i cant comment much on that end. You should have no worries about sending your children to this school, as staff are very involved with their students and do not favor one student over the next. Read less

Advanced Placement
