My son has been going to this school for one year. I do believe the teachers are very good. They are willing to help the students after school. As far as your child having a 504 or IEP you will have to stay on top of things. It is totally different from elementary as far as getting them to follow

I am currently a student of Friedell Middle School, and I feel that changing from a regular, easy-going elementary school to a challenging middle school is a great step, but the staff and teachers help you from where you need improvement. It is like taking steps upstairs, except they let you leap instead

My student has been very happy at Friedell. The smaller size of the school contributes to a friendly and tight-knit atmosphere. The teachers, staff, and administration are caring and dedicated. I am so happy that we're not at a large middle school where a student can simply get lost in the crowd.

I have had a son in Friedell for 3 years and it has been a great struggle to get the school to communicate with me when issues arise. Small is good. My children really know the other children and the teachers and vice versa. I sense there is a little less than average negative behavior because it cannot be anonymous in such a setting. The staff is incredibly dedicated. They are willing to take on extra education and tasks to meet

They are doing a nice job of both challenging those students while not isolating them. Even though middle school parent involvement is typically lower than grade school, I think a fair number of parents are involved at school with some aspect of volunteering. Being smaller, there might be fewer extra-curriculars but they still have chess, ski club, a play, jazz band, a drumming group, are forming an art club and maybe more not on my radar. Read less

If your child is at or above grade level in all subjects, this school is adequate. If your child needs any special help or assistance with any subject, I do not recommend this school! Our child has learning disabilities in math and science and has truly suffered for lack of support and attention.

Efforts on my part to communicate with her teachers has been frustrating at best. Offers to volunteer or help at the school have been ignored. We are disappointed in all respects with Friedell. * In 2007-2008 Minnesota used the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment-II (MCA-II) to test students in reading in grades 3 through 8 and 10, in math in grades 3 through 8 and 11, and in science in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school. The results for reading and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The MCA-II is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Minnesota. Students must pass the grade 10 reading and grade 11 math MCA-II exams in order to graduate from high school. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
