Our family had moved into the Utica School district two years before I decided to send my child to a school in the Utica School District. Our choice of elementary schools were many, however, we chose Rose Kidd Elementary School, even though I made the choice to continue to send my child to a charter
... Read more school. I knew early on that something was not right with my child and his learning ability from preschool onward. With the different schools that I had chosen in the past, even allowing the charter school to put my child back a grade. (Now I have learned that keeping him back would not help in his case.) Not one teacher could put their finger on what was wrong with my child. To make a long story short, I decided to try Rose Kidd and within two weeks of school starting, my child's seasoned 5th grade teacher came to me with an observation. She said ...please have your child tested for ADHD. I knew that something was not right, but now someone actually could see what I saw. So, I listened this time, instead of thinking that he would grow out of it because 'that's just the way boys are!' Sure enough my child was diagnoised with ADHD. Because of this wonderful seasoned teacher who cared, my child will get the professiona help that he will need. Personalized attention throughout his school years! Even though I kept searching for the right school it was not until I was directed to Rose Kidd where this very observant teacher who recognized the warning signs and was able to put a name with it that I learned what was wrong with my child. I will always be grateful because I recognized that in the year 2009 I was blessed, blessed to learn what was really wrong with my child with the help of this wonderful teacher, who showed deep concern for my child. I also must say that the Principal, even though he is young by most standards, he holds his ground and is fair, helpful and concerned with the school that he represents and the children who are under his care. I found Rose Kidd to be a wonderful school. (This is not to say that other schools do not have excellent teachers etc., because they do. (My son and I just had the wonderful experience of meeting one of the best 5th grade teachers in the Utica School District at Rose Kidd Elementary School.) Read less

This is my son's second year attending Rose Kidd Elementary. The school does seem to have some good teachers. However, I wish the school offered more after school activities for the students. It would be great if this school could hire a paraprofessional to assist students with medical needs.

My child is in a kindergarten class and her teacher is fantastic. She communicates very well with the parents and children. The class is learning so much academically as well as socially. She makes sure the kids are always kind with each other. She also attends after school activities and makes sure

The As far as the rest of the building, I'm not sure. Office staff and principal don't arrive prior to 8 a.m. so for parents to speak to them prior to school it's difficult. Organization of open house seemed off. Principal is hard to hear when he speaks to a crowd. Wish he'd use a microphone. I also wish they'd offer some after school enrichment programs. I know other Utica schools do. Read less

We are new to the neighborhood and Rose Kidd Elementary - but we are not new to Utica Community Schools. I would like to see a more active role in helping new kids team up with other classmates - like a buddy system when they are new. It is difficult for some kids to make friends and it would be nice

The transition to a new school, new grade, new neighborhood is even more overwhelming when you don't know anyone. That would be my only 'complaint' about this school. Otherwise my child is very happy with her teacher and the school and she expresses that happiness often.....she just wishes she had friends to share it with. Read less
