I am a parent of a 2009 graduated senior and a 7th grader. My children have gone to Mattawan schools their whole career. This school is good until about the second grade. The community is socially divided: half the district (Kalamazoo) is 'New' Mattawan, and the other half (Mattawan) is 'Old' Mattawan. In as early as first grade, you can see children with cell phones and Ipods. In second grade it is about where you

We recently relocated to the area from overseas. After interviewing the schools in the area we chose Mattawan based on the academic record as well as how comfortable everyone made us and our children feel. I have a son in 1st grade here and he has done extremely well with his adjustment to the U.S.

They also are great at looking at each child as an individual and offer 'out of the box' thinking when it comes to academics. I couldn't have chosen a better teacher or school. We are extremely happy with our choice and feel that for a public school the children are getting private school type attention and education. We also love the 'one campus' approach. Read less

I went to this school K-2. We recently decided to move back to the area. We chose a school first, then a house. Did lots of online research, test scores, graduation rates, crime rates etc. Mattawan and Portage were comparable, but from my experience, Mattawan is much friendlier. My daughter just

Kids thrive emotionally and socially as well as academically. The transportation department is kind and flexible, making my home daycare (Bright Futures Ahead) an official bus stop location. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Mattawan. I would highly recomend! Read less
