My child had a very good first grade teacher at Averill. Needless to say as soon as my child was identified with a Special Need his second grade teacher was not willing to implement any accomodations and modifications in his General Education classroom. The easy solution for this school is to lump
... Read more these kids in their Resource Room. The Principal was not supportive because she is to intimated by some of the tenure Teachers. The Principal is more political then Parent friendly. She is not capable of dealing with Parents who questions her staff. As a result of this experience my son will be repeating the second grade at a different school, although averill has promoted him to third grade. It alarms me that they are actually setting these special need kids up for failure by not promoting positive self esteem and recognizing that they are general education students first. Read less

* In 2006-2007 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing, in grades 5 and 8 in science and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course.
