This is not a good choice for a student who may not be very self directed. Students all have chrome books, and assignments and tests are emailed to the student! My student is in school seven hours, and always brings home a good 2 - 3 hours of homework. (makes it hard to have any family time) The teachers ...  Read more

We are having our child transfer out to another school mid-year. If you have an average or above student, they will probably do fine. It is not an encouraging environment for kids w/any struggles. Our child's self-esteem went down hill being in this environment in only 2 months we were there. The ...  Read more

If your student is not the typical Grandville computer genius, he/she will have a very hard time here. They do everything online, with only online help. Every student has a chrome book but they are not instructed how to use it. (Most just know because they have been using computers since toddlerhood). ...  Read more

My son's first week in middle was hard. New challenges included finding his classroom, lockers, remembering its combination, making new friends and meeting new teachers . The second week he was so happy that teachers and even eighth graders had helped him. Everyone in the office was polite and helpful.

A bit impersonal due to how large the student body is. It's hard to get to know teachers but overall I'm very happy with this school. Teachers we've had are all well versed in thier subjects and seem to really enjoy teaching. Great parent organization.

There are some awesome teachers there who see that my son is a hard worker despite his dyslexia. They have worked with him and have allowed him extra time to take assignments home to work on them.

Elementary schools WERE fantastic, but with new 'consistent curriculum' the hands of all gifted teachers have been tied. Very few advanced courses to prepare for High School. Keep looking- East Grand Rapids, Forrest Hills, GR City Middle High are far better choices. Just watch out for administrative ...  Read more

The Middle School has a very strong parent organization, strong staff to parent communication venue - including the Infinite Campus Parent Portal where parents can log in over the internet, view grades, comments, missing assignments, email teachers, etc. Written progress reports, monthly newsletters ...  Read more

Elementary schools are fantastic, but things change drastically at the middle level. Kids become a small pebble in a big ocean. Staff do not notice students and do not inform parents. There are a great deal of opportunities for students available, but there is no working with those who are not highly ...  Read more

Grandville Public Schools
* In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
