I was really disappointed with this school. Grand Blanc has a lot of great schools, unfortunately City School isn't one of them. The students take a lot of fields trips and they use alternative methods for teaching, however the staff does a poor job of actually helping students. A lot of the time ...  Read more

This school is incredible! The 5th grade teacher is the best in the nation: demanding, tough, but also compassionate. She will bring out the best in every student given the chance. My daughter had her for 3-4-5 multi-age. That teachers' passion of teaching children how to learn; care for others; to ...  Read more

My nephews used to attend this school, until we realized that City cares more about their 5 star rating than the kids who attend the school. If I may state it bluntly, if your child is not performing in the top 10 percentile, they will kindly encourage you to place your child in a "better fitting environment". ...  Read more

Don't believe the hype. At first glance this school seems like the perfect educational environment with hands-on learning and thematic based units and the school work posted outside of the classrooms are high quality. However, after being at the school for two years I noticed that they actively weed ...  Read more

City school is the best place for my children. I wish that every school could offer the hands on learning that this school offers. It is amazing hoe many things the kids learn daily.

This school doesn't deserve the 10 out of 10 rating that it is receiving at all. Everyone is nice to your face but once people start talking you find out that the staff isn't out for the best interest of the children as they claim. There are a few children in my child's class that are misplaced due to ...  Read more

I have two children with opposite learning styles and personalities, yet both have excelled at City School. My son has ADHD, yet feels very accepted, his teacher this year and the one he had for past two years have been outstanding in helping him to find coping skills and master subjects in his own ...  Read more

Very involved, knowlegable principal. Parents are very involved. Kids can get left behind if they are not self starters. Lots of hands on experiences and field trips.

Such an amazing multi-age school. It truly is like a family that offers many hands on opportunities.

CIty School is the best school. Standards of education should compare to this school. The teachers care about their students and use many different methods to help them learn. The City School students go on many different field trips designed to teach them while they are learning. For example, they ...  Read more

MEAP* Test Scores

Grade Level:

Test Year: 2013
City School
Grand Blanc Community Schools
* In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
