I have 2 kids at Kenwood. I love the smaller size school. Currently they have combined classes of different grades. For instance, K/1, 2/3, 4/5. It has nothing to do w/ the quantity of teachers, but on the concept of continued learning. The teacher gets to know the student and his/her capabilities for

Students really know the teacher and expectations. Older kids get to mentor the younger ones. All the kids get to learn at different levels. Isn't it nice that a school changes the way it teaches and student's learn, doesn't stick with the standards of the past 70 yrs, just because 'that's the way it's been done.' As for outdated teaching I find that almost laughable. This principle goes out of her way to keep up to date and offer everything she possibly can, you couldn't find a woman who has a bigger heart for all of her students, though she does expect them to be responsible. Our teachers seem very open to parent communication and have a willingness to work with each student to try and best meet their needs. We had heard good things, but now we see first hand they are true! Read less
* In 2008-2009 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
