I disagree with the first review for my school. I am a student at RSMS and believe it is a VERY FUN place. My social studies teacher Mr. Bower always gets the class involved in what we're doing by watching videos, reading books, and always having a good sence of humor. Ms. Parkhurst, my reading teacher,
... Read more always has a wonderful sence of humor as well and always gets the class involved using her Smart Board to play fun games. My math teacher, Mrs. Sappia teaches me pre-algebra. I'm in 6th grade so that is a very hard subject, but Mrs. Sappia makes it fun using white board activities, watching real-life videos where people use math, and using her wonderful humor. I hope that this review was very helpful, and that anyone who doubted RSMS, rest assure that this school is a wonderful one to go to. Read less

I believe the problem at this school starts at the top. The teachers and administration at this school are NOT receptive to parents, do not take the time to get to know the kids they teach and are always in the 'defensive' mode. I have 2 children who attend. One is an above average student and one

However, if you point out what the teacher may be missing or may have done inappropriately, you are flatly dismissed. The coursework is pushed at an un-Godly pace and the 'special' courses are taught like you are in a communist country! Where is the FUN in school anymore? Certainly not going to find it at RSMS. No student support for extracurricular activities, either! Read less

This school is very agerage. Not up to par with other Harford County Schools. My daughter has been diagnosed with mild learning dissabilites and has trouble with organization. The teachers were quick to 'tag' her as lazy and unmotivated instead of finding creative ways to teach her in her needs.

I have to agree with both of the other parents. My son is currently a student at RSMS. It is almost imposible to get any type of 'special' help for your child. My child has ADHD. and this school refuses to see him as disable and chalk up his inability to complete his work as laziness. I find this school

3 of my children have gone through this school, and it is an average school. It needs to segregate the kids in groups of how they learn, instead of pushing the curiculum at a specified speed and time. Those who grasp it all are fine, but those who don't get it right away are 'Left Behind' (see the
... Read more 'No Child Left Behind' motto for Cecil Co Schools). Teachers in this school are not even prepared to help a kid who has a different way of learning. They try, but the school board does nothing to help the teachers either. Cecil Co needs to totally rethink the curiculum and the way they are teaching kids. Then they can say they 'left no child behind'. Cecil co also needs to quit worrying about tests and put more emphasis on the 'quality' of learning, not if they are keeping up with the rest of the country. If we improve 'how' the kids learn then the county's precious test scores will go up because the kids will be retaining what they learned. They are pushing too much too fast. Read less

As long as your child cruises through the middle school years without a problem you are fine. If you have a problem, be prepared to fight. This is perhaps indicative of the entire public school system, not just Rising Sun Middle School. I believe the schools are so mired in testing and test scores that
