I love this school, it has marvelous teachers and a great building. All the parents there are totally involved with the school and put their heart into it just like all the other administrators and teacher. I definetly recommend this school to every child in Baltimore City from the grade K-8. Best school

Since the departure or Mariale Hardiman, the school simply has not been the same. Not to say that it was perfect before Hardiman was in charge, but the change has been visible, and it is rather unfortunate. The elementary school did a lot more for me than the middle school, however, I attended before

We have two children at this school - both in the middle school. As we are not zoned for this school elementary school here was not an option. The middle school has two magnet programs - Ingenuity and Advanced Academic. These programs draw the brightest middle schoolers in Baltimore City. We have been

Because we travel across town to go to school it is difficult to do all afterschool activities they'd like to do, or for me to be as involved a parent as I'd like to be. On the other hand I believe my kids are getting a great education here and will be well prepared for highschool. Read less

A rebuttal to the parent who complained about the 'elitist' selection method of the after school programs - I know for a fact that the volunteers who run these programs use a lottery system to choose the participants. And they are heartsick at having to turn down anyone. But it is a simple fact - there

I am so sick of people bad mouthing the administration, the teachers, and the other parents at this wonderful school when they themselves give NO SUPPORT. You want your kid to have organic school lunches? Then pack the lunch yourself! You want there to be more activities? Organize and sponsor one yourself! Put up or shut up. Read less

We have two children at the school and our experience over the past four years has been quite mixed. The teachers range from average to very good and the parents are involved with the school. On the down side, the school is beholden to an extremely structured, uncreative curriculum called 'direct instruction'
... Read more which tends to teach rote skills at the cost of the child actually mastering and internalizing the concepts. To supplement this overly dry and unimaginative curriculum, the school attempts to provide a variety of 'additional programs' to some of the children. Unfortunately, these programs are only open to select students and the selection process tends to have an 'elitist', who-you-know quality to it. All in all, our experience has been that the school has not inspired our children to learn but rather has made them mostly uninterested in school activities. This is very unfortunate given the tremendous potential available. Read less

I have been teaching at Roland Park for ten years, and I have two children who went to school here. Concerning some of the comments posted about having too much testing and test preperations, I can only wonder, 'What planet do you live on?' We have been living in a world of high stakes testing for well over a decade, and it is the school's job to prepare students for these tests. Furthermore, we teach a great curriculum year round. As far as the school's discipline policy, if there's no discipline, student learning will suffer. Some parents are just sour grapes. Read less

It's 8 months of test preparation and 2 months of education at RPEMS. The quality of the teaching staff varies alot and most cannot overcome the weaknesses of the canned curriculum.
