Way too easy, kids are very distracting, the no walls are a huge distracting.. which just adds to the craziness of the school. The only good things about the school is the Goddard Scholars program and the AP courses. Those are the only somewhat challenges a kid could come across in that school.

Hey, people call me by my nickname, Tony. I have to keep this comment short because of the 150 word limit. First off, the bad qualities: the structure of the school is poorly arranged - there are NO walls in the majority of the areas of the school save for a few rooms with absolutely no ventilation

The gym is acceptable but the auditorium, where most of the school performances and seminars take place, is a mess. The seats are dirty while the stage needs its wood flooring replaced, as well as the lights. But on to the good part. The teachers are absolutely the best teachers a student can have. The best teachers in the school only teach the honors students, plus the Goddard Scholars (which I am a part of). Read less

Some consider South High to be ghetto and full of failure, but it is so much more than that. South High has the most AP courses offered in the city, and additional ones are hosted online through VHS. As a current senior of South High, I would have to say that I have learned and still am learning a lot from South High. The physical defects gives students the chance to learn how to disregard little things and focus on what really matters, a skill necessary in the real world. Although South High may

The teachers at this school go out of their way to try to help students succeed. However, South still has a low academic standing. South High Community School is like the underdog of all schools. It has a bad reputation, but in my opinion, it is one of the best schools within the Worcester area. As a CURRENT student at South High, I would say that the school offers a wonderful and unique social as well as educational experience.
... Read more The student body is made up of various ethnicities and races. It is not a dangerous school. In fact, it is very safe. Yes, there are students who end up in conflict, but that is only as a result of a personal argument. Contrary to what many believe, students do not walk around with weapons, ready to shank one another. At South High, we have lots of school spirit. We may not be the best at what we do, but we do try. The students at South High aren t typical teenagers. The lives of most South High students are too complex for them to be able to focus on school. Many have family to take care of, or jobs to tend to in order to help support their family. Test scores prove nothing other than that many students are not motivated. Lack of motivation is no ones fault but the parents and students of South High. The teachers at South are outstanding and they do their best to teach and help students. Various courses are offered at South High. I may be wrong, but I believe that South High offers the most AP courses out of all the Worcester Public High Schools. The only downfall to South is it s lack of money. The bathrooms are sort of dingy and the bubblers don t work, except for one in the gymnasium. I believe that South High s poverty teaches children to appreciate what they have a little more. We have open class learning , meaning that we don t have walls to separate classes. It doesn t affect learning at all. Before entering South, I was afraid I wouldn t be able to concentrate in class and that it would be too loud for me to focus, but it is nothing like that. Many students would agree that having walls would be pretty unfortunate. It would make the class too quiet and private. I hope to God that South never puts up walls. The lack of walls defines South High, and it s what most kids love about the school. Nobody can judge South High unless they have worked there or attended the school. Theres no way to sufficiently describe South. Experiencing it first hand is something unique and special. Read less

South High Community School has its strong and weak points. Weak points being the 'open class learning' which can be frustrating, but also teaches concentration. It is a wonderful program for those students who would otherwise be caught in the rut of mediocre learning. For activities, there is a good range but could be better. South has a wonderful music program, and various culture awareness groups. A main problem is the lack of parent involvement, as discipline starts at the home, and where there is none shows and disrupts learning. Overall it's a school to consider if you have self-discipline.
