I've had 3 children attend the Simonian Center for Early Learning (formerly Sutton ELC). They've had wonderful experiences and have received an excellent education. I've also dealt with the special education department. You won't find a finer group of professionals, particularly the teachers and aides.

I can only surmise that the parent was frustrated by her child's situation; this can be a difficult challenge for a family. I know families have moved to Sutton just because of their excellent SPED department. There are avenues for dealing with disagreements. If there really is an injustice, the state would have dealt with it. I'm guessing the parent's perceptions weren't deemed valid. Read less

If you have a child with special needs, don't go to Sutton. The prior SPED director is leaving, and I can't speak to the current one. However, the prior SPEd director steadfastly refused to provide necessary services our child needed to access the education, even though our child obviously wasn't making
... Read more progress. They were willing to push our child along with a program that did not address our child's needs and did not teach our child the curriculum. The teachers did the work and gave out 100's, but the report card showed our child had no knowledge of the subject matter. We approached the SPED director with a methodology that we had tried with our child with great success and she refused to even discuss it. We are very disappointed in the quality of teaching, complete lack of concern that our child made no progress and unwillingness to involve parents. Read less

Advanced Placement

Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
