Just in my English class, my peers have already been accepted into MIT, WPI, Northeastern, and Johnson & Wales University. Also, several are waiting to hear from Harvard, Yale and Boston College. I agree that our building is less than perfect. But I feel like the quality of teaching that I have experienced at Lunenburg High School more than makes up for that. You're lucky if you're a 'jock'. Sports tends to lead to your popularity as well as parent, town, and system support. Especially if your a male student. Well, I am an artist. Next year I will be attending Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. I have never enjoyed sports, I tried. I am friends with the jocks , I am friends with the art kids , I am friends with all different crowds. Lunenburg jocks are so far from the guys you see on teen drama TV shows. Boys will be boys, but they are some of the most caring, funny and smart students I have met. Text books and equipment are from the early 70s...(I am not kidding). Our text books are not from the 70 s. Sometimes we use older books in conjunction with the newer ones in order to get two sides to one story. A lot of the equipment for science classes are older (still, probably not from the 70 s), but not unusable. I have never had a problem completing a lab and grasping the concept because of problems with old equipment. Also, I did an internship at the Lunenburg Primary School. This is a new building with many of the same great teachers that I had years ago. If you look at the test scores of kids from any Lunenburg Public School, where we lack in the quality of our older buildings we make up for in the excellence of our academic programs. Your last name or family reputation does not matter nearly as much as was stated in previous comments. In fact, as a student who has been there for four years, I can not recall a time where family name was brought up as an important factor in class at all except for so you must be so-and-so s sister . I am not trying to discredit the previous statements. However, it sounds like many of them took a tour for about a half hour and listened to a few disgruntled students. I hope you consider the academic success of my peers and look beyond the outdated school that I have gone to everyday for the past four years. Read less

But as far as education goes I believe the teachers and the community real help students grow into striving open minded young adults.The Lunenburg school system provided me with the tools I needed to do very well in College and most importantly taught me to be an active, down to earth, well rounded person. The High School is in shambles. I moved here 6 years ago and 2 younger children as well as one in the High school. I wonder where the tax money in this town goes? The school is very safe, most kids are from the same econonic background so stealing and violenece are very low. Text books and equipment are from the early 70s...(I am not kidding). We, too, considered Lunenburg for its school system. We, too, are unimpressed. For the kids who go to school to do their 4 years of high school and move on, it's not a bad place. For the ones who have so much more to offer in an academic setting, there are no programs to encourage that. The 'advanced'

The mindset of the schools is very outdated, and (to echo another review) so much - throughout the whole town - either happens for you or does not, based on what your last name is. Girls teams are certainly considered less then a priority as seen in uniforms, coaching, and school promotion. It seems to be a safe environment with basic learning and academic skills a priority.
