I am a parent of 2 Whispering Forest students and have recently (2008) become a substitute teacher for this school as well. I have had the opportunity to see Whispering Forest as both a parent and as a teacher and I simply adore this school all the way around! The principal, teachers and office staff
... Read more are all incredible! I only wish the classes would go all the way to 8th grade (or higher) ~ I just hate to leave them! This school is a smaller school than average, therefore, the children are treated as individuals and not a number. As stated by other posts, Whispering Forest is extremely neat and clean and is located in a nice, safe area of Slidell. Knowing many teachers here, I can personally attest that they really do care about their students... I know the kids are treated with respect and fairness. Read less

My child attended Whispering Forest in grades K through T-1. We've since relocated, and she attends a different school as a first-grader. Her educational experience at WF was top quality. This school is one of the reasons why St. Tammany schools as a whole are rated and viewed so highly. They truly

As a part of our administrative philosophy, my assistant principal and I are highly visible in the classrooms, in the halls, and other areas of the school. Our school system has a guaranteed curriculum that addresses the state grade level expectation and organizes our resources to assist teachers with their planning. Our school, along with all of the St. Tammany school, has developed a discipline system using the state Positive Behavior Support model. This proactive model requires input and participation from all parties. Our Treehouse Council (student council) meets regularly with the council s sponsors and the administration to share ideas to enrich the school s physical plant and climate. Parental input is always welcomed and appreciated. Our very best cheerleaders are those who have actively participated in the day to day activities at the school. My child's in 3rd grade. We just moved here this year so I'm not in a position to compare the school pre and post Katrina. After a rocky start with teacher transitioning, things finally smoothed out. We were very disappointed in the substitute teacher that was chosen & the time it took find a replacemennt.

Also I am not happy with the follow up/advice/help I've received in resolving some of these related issues. I would like to see the school sending home parent notices further in advance & communicating better. I don't see any extracurricular activities here that don't involve academics. All in all, I feel it's a good school but does have room for much needed improvement. Read less
