I have watched four of my kids turn into very intelligent, and thoughtful young men and women as they have progressed through the years at CMH. I was raised in private schools and we never had half the opportunities that these kids have been offered at this 'public' school.

While Magnet is not a math and science school, it is nevertheless the leader of the pack in nearly every science competition in Louisiana. C.E. Byrd (the math/science school) does not participate in science fairs or any other competition where they will encounter Magnet students. Quite odd you might say. i love magnet with all my heart. its probably the best school my parents could have sent me too. i wasn't must for going there at first but now... i can't wait to go to school! there is never any drama what so ever. The teachers they're great. No cliques.

CMHS is the best kept secret in Shreveport. This school is for parents and children who are serious about their child's education first, sports second. Since moving to LA I found that football takes over the high schools and dilutes the academic quality. Football players and cheerleaders set the standards
... Read more at many of these schools and create heavy peer pressure. There is no football at CMHS. CMHS remains in the top 3% of high schools in the entire nation and is the TOP high school in all of LA. (Check the stats). My 9th grade son loves it there and the kids are very accepting of each other. It's not in the greatest neighborhood but there are no problems. Since kids must be accepted based on grades and behavior records the student quality is excellent! Great kids, great teachers, great school! Read less
* In 2007-2008 Louisiana used the Graduate Exit Examination for the 21st Century (GEE 21) to test grade 10 students in math and English language arts and grade 11 students in science and social studies. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Before/After School

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
