... Read more stayed strong and now things are going good. She doesn't want to go anywhere else but there when it used to be she begged me to put her in another school. I think overall the school does prepare our children for college. I've been to several of the graduations and saw the schlolarships that these children have gotten. I would recommend Holden School. As a former student and parent, I was always proud that I and my children graduated from this school with the tools to also receive degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University. Sucess is available to any student of Holden High School, provided that the student and his/her parents truly want to take
... Read more advantage of the opportunity. Over the years many families have moved in and became proud parts of the school and the community. The few who didn't, did so at their own choosing. Like any school or community, Holden has its negatives, but the positives are here in abundance. As one who has traveled and worked in communities over most of the United States, and could have relocated to most of those, I am in Holden because this is where I 'want' to be. Read less

I attended this school during both elementary and high. this is because they are the same place. as many other reviewers have stated if you are not related to the few families that make up this small town you have no chance to succeed. that is unless you happen to be able to dribble a ball. this schools
... Read more main goal is to prepare students to get a high enough score on the ACT to qualify for SLU. seeing as how there are two much better schools in Albany and Livingston i would have to recommend a person enrolling their child in either one of these schools. Read less

While there are some excellent teachers, there are plenty that are not sincerely concerned about the welfare of the children. Complaints of wrong-doing often go ignored and the accuser punished if they aren't careful. The classes aren't very challenging and there are few outside of the standard college-prep
... Read more courses to choose from. Being from here is a Huge deal...if your child isn't liked they probably won't even be given a fair chance to play in games for the few sports Holden has. The parents that are involved with the school are even more clique-y than the staff and most have the standard 'small town' mentality. It is just not a good environment overall. Read less

Holden has some of the best educators around and the scores reflect such. It's a small school and there are advantages and disadvantages to this. On the advantage side, the parental and teacher involvement is amazing and all children are given an exceptional opportunity to learn. On the minus side,
... Read more its so small that there are few extracurricular activities (unless you are a basketball fan!)and you find a lot of cliques in the students as well as their parents. If you are not 'from Holden' you may have a hard time fitting in. Read less

My 3 children have gone through Holden High School and overall I am pleased with the quality of education. The English honors and Math honors courses are excellent. My children were very prepared to attend College. Though not perfect, if I had to do it over again I would definitely send my children to

This is a small school where you would think that the teaching level is high. However, there are some teachers there that could care less about the students. This school caters to its athletes rather than provide a fair atmosphere to all students equally. Wouldn't recommend it.....

* In 2007-2008 Louisiana used the Graduate Exit Examination for the 21st Century (GEE 21) to test grade 10 students in math and English language arts and grade 11 students in science and social studies. Advanced Placement
