PVA is a great school. Academicly PVA has distanced itself from other area schools. PVA also has a wonderful athletic program staffed wityh coaches who care not only about winning but also about biulding charecter in thier young athletes. I would recommend PVA to any parent who wants their child to go

I attended PVA for 13 years (K-12). My years at PVA proved to be very valuable as I entered post-secondary education. The experiences in and out of the classroom afforded me the book knowledge and cultural knowledge to feel confident in all my ventures. I was an athlete that maintained a 3.98 GPA
... Read more and was elected Mr. PVA, Student Council V.P., FCA President (two years), yearbook editor, and involved in many other groups. My teachers genuinely cared about me and my family. While no school can offer superb teachers across the curriculum, PVA, in my opinion, offered a great number of quality educators. I attended a difficult, private college in La. and was well prepared for all I encountered. I played college basketball and was able to balance the demands of it and academics thanks to PVA. I attended Prairie view for the 2001-2002 year, and i personally don't have any idea what the last review was raving about. Personally, i think they may have had issues with a quality education, because most of their words were grossly misspelled, and such. Although there were one or two teachers who
... Read more did not genuinely care about students education, most were committed to a standard of excellence. The problem with the last review, was that as were most people i met from the area, kids did not want to learn anything, they wanted grades handed to them. I can say honestly that that does not happen at Prairie view, and that if you have a child who wants to learn, or enjoys a challenge from public school, this is an excellent choice, especially for the money. This was the worst experiance I ever had. Too much emphasis on sports. The new pricipal was the worst I had ever seen and didn't know how to spend money. Most of the time I knew more than the teacher and had no experiance in what they taught mostly in the computer program. It has been a long time since
... Read more I been here so I don't know if its better than the bad experiance it was. Our family was sued trying to get out of it and go to a public school near our area. It wasn't all bad... Some teachers I remember being OK, but not great. I had some great friends, some of the best. The students here rock! That's really the only thing that is good. If you want to got to an over-priced school that is worse than a public one, bad teachers. Come here. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.
Gifted and Talented
A school system may identify 10% to 15% or more of its student population as gifted and talented. A brief description of each area of giftedness or talent as defined by the Office of Gifted and Talented:
general intellectual ability or talent - high intelligence test score (usually two standard deviations above the mean), and high levels of vocabulary, memory, abstract work knowledge and abstract reasoning;

leadership ability, the ability to direct individuals or groups to a common decision or action;
visual and performing arts, special talents in visual art, music, dance, drama, or other related studies;
psychomotor ability, such as practical, spatial, mechanical, and physical skills.
Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
